View Full Version : whats the heatsheild sound like
getting a vibration on start up,and when braking,i can feel it through the pedal too.over run it makes a vibrating noise/feeling too,and goes mental when excellerating out of bends/roundabouts?
if this sounds like the heat sheild,how much i gotta pay to get it done,or is it DIYable?best to weld back on or can it br refitted better?may be able to gain access to ramps and/or a pit.

CV joint? Although why this would cause vibration at start up....hmmm

had this thought meself chris,as some grease has escaped fromt the boot(no splits whatsoever),but can't find a problem here.
its deffor from the exhaust /down pipe,maybe i have a problem in the braking department,this may be the vibration through the pedal:confused:

Make sure the calipers / discs are not loose from any modifications.
Do you get the vibration when accelerating hard?

BeefaGti's old 2.0 8v duff magnex centre box cuased these exact sypmtons........

Dor. just need some time and light to get under it,mind you me bro's mate has ramps,but he insist on doing the work(frigging landrover mechanic)i'll buy him some food/beer and tell him to frig off for an hour.
had the rattle problem well similar on my bangor
had the heat sheilding under the car ratteling
as for the vibration on the pedal if she doing it under braking only maybe it is summat to do with the brakes
is it just the pedals that rattle jason? or any thing else?

tbh i think its just a rattle i can feel amplified through the pedal,when on overrun,brakes are shite anyway,getting rid at autosport if i can get some discount.or after for defo.you coming up with us si?friday:(

The heatshield on my downpipes used to rattle really bad so recently got a good look at the problem when took it off to fit tubular manifold - basically it had come unwelded around the last bit of the downpipe just before it would go in the Kat - rewelding around here, even just a few spot welds, should cure it.
Of course once the downpipe was off, I had to have a look what the old downpipes were like didn't I...well it was a bitch to get the heatshield off completely - much grinding and chisseling - wouldn't fancy trying this in situ ! - so my advice would be pop a few tack welds on and see what happens
