At the moment I'm currently sharing an Escort with my mum but am looking for something cheap enough to run, and insure. Going to work and college each week racks up 250 miles roughly, so must be able to handle that.

Checking out insurance for an Ibiza (contradictory to my name lol!) it was about £90 per month for me as the policy holder (an 18 year old who's held a licence for over 1 year but with no no claims bonus..) on a 96 N plate Ibiza 1.4 S.

I don't know what all the different specs are (there were CL's, SE's etc if I recall) but I'd prefer a 1.4 or could possibly go for a 1.0 - are there any other engine sizes in between, and what sort of price should a 96 N be going for, say with average miles ?

Cheers!

1.4's are in a few flavours, but a 1995 car will have an average of 90k on it. pretty high, but not the end of the world. Mine was abused *and still is* with 117k+ on it

I would expect to pay circa 1500. any more & you're into facelift money.

insurance for me when I was 19/20 on mine was 1440/yr

Mark

PS - get a 1.4

New one on Auto Trader today..not sure about the colour tho :repuke: Right price nevertheless.. http://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD_web/servlet/media?id=51214199 P Reg Seat Ibiza 1.4 SE

I did like this one but the price is a bit OTT, even with the mods.. http://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD_web/servlet/media?id=57139149 1996 SEAT IBIZA 1.4 , 1996,
N reg. 72000 miles, full bodykit, 17 Millie Migilas, lowered 40mm, M3 mirrors, tints, spoiler, full respray in BMW Estoril blue, low insurance, Cat 1 alarm, Pioneer mini disc stereo, no agencies or timewasters. £2,800 . ono.

My sister in law did have an Ibiza at one time, don't think it gave her any problems except when she traded it in the trade in value was pathetic. Not that that will effect me at this end of the market - to my advantage really! PS - daft question but I assume the 1.4 is a VAG unit and is quite reliable ??

The first one seems like a much better buy. Avoid the second one like the plague!!!

If you're even vaguly concerned about insurance costs, i'd steer well clear of the 2nd one...

Early cars (93-96) came in C, CL & CLS trims, none of which were anything to write home about spec-wise IIRC. The later facelifted cars (97-99) were a bit better specced and were badged up as SE, SXE and a variety of other "limited edition" type names. Transition cars from around 96 & 97 may be badged as pretty much anything and have can have a bizarre mix of equipment.

Don't consider a 1.0. You'll hate yourself. Fortunately, it (the 1.0 motor) is fairly rare in an Ibiza and for good reason - it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. Interestingly though, it's a pretty common motor to find in a mk4 Polo...

One of them is . sure, but it isn't the top one. My missus has a Lazuli blue one and it never looks dirty.

Yeh..I know. A un modified 1.4 was reasonable but once you started declaring the mods to the insurer they'd start adding on the pounds like they were going out of fashion.

I've set myself a budget of max £1500 for the car, but doing this the only way I could afford this is to pay it up over 2 years - is this wise on a car not a kick in the shirt of 10 years old ?? Looking at it another way I will do no more than 15k a year on it so if it got me to 100k and I could sell it on 2 years later I'd be reasonably happy! I also have to remember that my dad, who pays the insurance on the Ford would be saving a lot of money so you never know what I could talk him into contributing..;)

Fen - is that really true about that colour ? The Escort I drive now is white and it drives me nuts..specially with the rust starting to appear on it. What is the most popular colour on Ibiza's anyway?

It is true about the Lazuli Blue - it doesn't show up the dirt that much, especially at night !

I am new here and this thread caught my eye as I am currently looking at upgrading from my current car which happens to be a 96 N plate Ibiza 1.4 Salsa (I had the Salsa decals taken off as I didn't like them), 45250 miles on the clock (as of today), FSH and in good condition.

I must say that I have been very happy with my Ibiza :) , with no problems in the 3.5 years I have owned it, so I am going to stick with a SEAT and probably get myself a Leon 1.6 SX , but then I am unsure at the moment as I keep on hankering after a Leon Cupra (2004 model), or maybe the new Ibiza FR when available .....Henry Ford had the right idea , saved all this decision making :)

I've had my Mk2 '99 1.4 S Ibiza for over 3 years now (69k on the clock) and I can say I've been very pleased with it. Had no major probs (touching wood as he says it !!)

Mine's Lazulli Blue, and I like it 'cause it's unique and despite what people say, it's BLUE and not Purple !!! ;)

I'm looking at selling mine in the spring for about £2.5k.

FC Insurance for me is £350 a year, 25 with 4yrs NCB ;)

Here's a pic:

It depends on the light - under street lights (orange) it does look a bit `violet` !

As for being unique, when I first got the car I thought `there won't be too many cars the same colour around my way` ,but, that evening I was shocked to see a Lazuli Blue sitting near my garage - I thought somebody was nicking my car the first day !.
It turned out that another resident living over the way had a Cordoba in Lazuli Blue ,so that finished my idea of having a `unique` coloured car and to top it off , it was an N reg as well.

Maybe they looked out and saw me driving off and thought exactly the same !!
