The recent advent of APR's DirectPort Programming has ushered in a new era of software upgrades for modern engine management. APR was the first in the industry to release our patented Enhanced Modular Chipping System. EMCS allows a user to have multiple programs and options on their vehicles computer, ready to be changed through the buttons of the factory cruise control switch. Several companies have tried to imitate EMCS, but with little success.

APR then raised the bar with the release of DirectPort Programming to the public. DirectPort Programming allows all of the same functionality of EMCS, but without ANY hardware. This system allows programs to uploaded to the engine ECU via the factory OBDII port. Just like EMCS, a user can switch between different programs.

Now, in another revolutionary step, APR has released V-Tune. V-Tune allows an end user to make changes to certain parameters of their vehicle. Different factors such as atmospheric conditions, gasoline octane levels, and different modifications can lead to poor drivability, bad gas mileage, and less than ideal power output. By using V-Tune, these factors can be lessened to allow a user to get the most out of the car and optimize its performance.

V-Tune allows users to adjust the boost level, the ignition timing, and the air/fuel ratio of the car by using a simple PC-based tuning software. V-Tune will not allow a user to make changes to the program that could be potentially damaging to the vehicle. Once the changes have been made, they can be "reflashed " to the car through the factory OBDII port using a DirectPort tuning cable.

Hmmm. Interesting stuff. Watch for REVO announcements too I would guess.

edit & nicked off Vortex>>

As Jeremy already mentioned, the V-tune program it's great for those of us who wish to play around a little more with the engine/turbo settings without having to buy a Stand Alone managment system.
I got to download the program yesterday from their website and it was a piece of cake + it took me a whole 2 minutes or even less.
Once I saw the program it self I was impressed on how easy it looked. On the base program anybody with basic knowledge can work with it. The basic settings are:
- Boost
- Timing
- Lambda Regulation
- Speed limiter
- Idle torque offset
- Idle speed

The advance settings are:

- Main Fuel Scale
- Primary Fuel adjustment
- Fuel Loan Increase
- Fuel Load Decrease
- Start Fuel enrichment
- Warm Up Fuel Enrichment
***************************************

Good for playing with... and expensive when you get it wrong.
Dead Engine worst case scenario.

:D best thing is as a apr dpp cust, get this free:p need a lap top,and vag com,but it has to be serial, not usb to interface with the car,and was/am gonna get these anyhow:D,and you cannot adjust any parameters, outside of vag safe limits, like sps3,But you can get an advanced version to do this if you know what your doing(could be usful to use @ a dyno,if you have dpp,and wanted a custom map
vern:eek: mucho more info on vortex

Some info on yet another map yourself product form GIAC.
http://www.giacusa.com/giac/dealer_only/mobiletuner.php

Wait to see how many peeps run it wrong and wreck things.

SPS3 remains inside limits and factory safeties remain intact.

Adjust fueling however on a DIY fueler without proper understanding, measurement or control, and you will cause severe engine damage. (piston, valves, turbo)

Yep, you got to know what your doing...however there have been internal limits set to this program..

Impossible to kill your engine if you get it wrong type limits? (not likely and well done if you've managed this :p )

I don't think it would be that difficult to make it so that you can't damage the engine. For example it could easily ensure that at no point in your map that the fuel/air ratio is leaner than stoch, or whatever.

Cheers
