i'm looking at buying some alloys and lowering my mk2 1.4 CLS and was wondering what will i get on there?

You can fit 15s with 185/55 or 195/50 tyres
16s with 195/45 or 205/45
or 17s with 205/40

17s will probably result in shocking ride and possibly dodgy handling.

Best compromise of looks/ride quality is 16s.

EDIT: I have a set of 15" Cupra Sport alloys for sale if you are interested?

i think i'll go with 16's and lower it 40/60mm if i get it lowered 60mm am i gonna need the arches rolled or anythin?

You might need to trim the wheel arch liners, but that's about it. Many people are lowered on 16s with no rubbing.

that a DIY job?

It's DIY-able - just a few minutes with a Stanley knife or similar.

NB - not mentioned above by Steve but... Wheel offset is rather important. ET38 is standard. Smaller offset number will make the wheels stick out further, there's quite a bit of space inside the rear arches (many folks fit spacers to widen the rear track). Bigger offset numbers will put the wheels futher inboard, so more likely to foul on springs, also rubbing on front inner arches when turning.

Also worth noting - if you wanted to run 205/45 on 16's, make sure they're 6.5J or 7J wide - you can't run them safely on a 6J wide wheel. 195/45's are fine on a 6J though...

And while i'm on at it... You say your car is a CLS - I guess that means it's one of the earlier pre-facelift cars (93-96-ish)? The front suspension turrets differ between the pre and post facelift mk2's, with the post facelift cars being able to accept a larger diameter spring. What this means in real terms is that a suspension kit intended for a pre-facelift will work OK on a post-facelift, but it doesn't work the other way around. You have been warned...

My rist car was a Mk2 Seat ibiza 1.4 and i dropped it 30mm using PI springs and shot a set of 17inch Voodo 2's (Wolfrace) on . They looked mint and had no probs regarding rubbing! dont go for anything smaller, they frankly dont look the part!! Believe me, i bought a set of 15's to begin with and was never happy with them.

Ive got 15" Fox alloys on my MK2 and they look pants - get 17's or 16's and a drop - I am saving for new wheels now!

i have 17's Team Dynamic Monza's on. Personally i feel that you have to go for multispoke ones, as 5 spoke leave too much of a gap and the discs aren't big enough to do this. I'd say though that handling has got worse, but its worth it as they look awesome

Ive had both 15"s and 17"s ...I personally think that the overall BEST look is mainly to do with the suspension, and the amount you drop it.

It's the front end drop which determines overall how good a motor looks with rims :) I was never happy with the drop distance my APEX springs gave me at the front of the car, although the rear was perfect! (60mm, arch level with the top of the rear tyres, front was only 45mm drop, had a good inch gap, bah!)

N.B - no rubbidge ever :)

yea mines runnin on 17's with a 40mm drop and as smithy said the back looks awsome but the front don't!:(

if ure going for a big drop(60mm) the 16's would be ok, anythin less and i'd advise 17's purely for the look!:D

I had 60mm with 17s no hassles at all go for it. The only thing is that my car the cupra comes with the rear arches rolled as standard you may need to get yours done.

Hi yall'

I need some info/help.

I tried to fit my LEAGUE TANTRUMS on Sunday.

It seems that the hub radius of the Seat is smaller than that of my TANTRUMS.
Does anyone know how I can get round this?

Also, Im guessing that the bolt holes on my TANTRUMS are wider apart compared to those of the Seat.
What do I need to do to get the alloys to fit?

(Hopkins, I know ur the man that might be able to help)

Cheers ppl

OK - i'm getting a little confused here (doesn't take much!) but...

Fuey - was it you that was looking to fit a set of wheels from a 306 you used to have onto a mk2 Ibiza you'd just bought? If so, a quick search online and i'm afriad the news isn't good...

Peugeot fitment:
Model P.C.D. Offset C/Bore
306 4x108 15...22 65.0

Seat fitment:
Model P.C.D. Offset C/Bore
Ibiza 4x100 35-38 57.0

Info courtesy of http://www.tyresave.co.uk/fitment.html (thank you google!). From the data above, you have problems on all fronts. In a nutshell...

Centre Bore - Fortunately, the hole in the wheel will be too big - an alloy wheel suppier should be able to supply you with a reducer ring to sort it out though.

Offset - The wheels will stick out a bit too far. You may get away with it, you may need to roll the arch lips a bit. I don't think it'd be a problem at the back (plenty of folks use ET38 wheels with 20mm spacers to make ET18 overall without problems), the clearances might be a bit tight at the front. Note that wider front track may make the steering a bit heavier/ make the power steering pump work a bit harder.

P.C.D. - The bolt holes will not match up. And as far as I know, there's no way of getting round this. Not sure if Tantrums are a multi-fit wheel or not - i.e. two sets of bolt drillings. Most multi-fit wheels these days are drilled for 100 and 108 PCD as these tend to be the most common...

Sorry. Dare say it's not what you wanted to hear, but there you go. I'd suggest you stick the wheels on ebay or something and get something else that will actually fit...

Cheers H.

Thought as much. (it was me - pug306)

Going to Wheel-Base on Saturday to see what they can do, but I suspect that your right. Maybe Wheel-Base could do a part-ex...

Gona go to a dealership to get my headunit taken out in about 10 mins, at least that cant be do chuffing difficult.

Thanks again H.

New question.

How do you remove the leather gear nob without too much stress?

Does anyone know if 17"x8j fit the ibiza? I've seen the perfect wheels for my car but I don't know if they will fit
