Hi Guys,

Got a few questions on getting my car chipped and would greatly appreciate it if any of you can help.

1) ive heard that general motorway driving mpg's improve, is this true?

2) What sort of performance increases could I be looking at for my cupra pd?

3) What manufacturer's chip have you in your car and why did you choose them.

1) yes
2) on the 130 you'll see something like 180hp & 380Nm of torque
3) I've been running the REVO stuff for over 70000km without a problem. I like the stealthy functioning of the REVO software. (so much so that I'm there Portuguese distributor).

I have the cupra 150bhp m8 not the 130, my mistake for not making it clearer in the post(although it is in my sig ;)), what sort of increase would i be looking on that?

195 & 410Nm ....:D :D

What really gets me is the amount of soot you don't get with the REVO software.

ah nice, wot sort of mpg would you expect if 95% of my travelling was motorway, travelling between 70-85 depending on conditions. My average mpg is around 45 atm, only done 500 miles in it so should expect it to increase a good bit :)

Ive got an Upsolute'd PD115 Bora and motorway economy went up by an average of about 4mpg after chipping.
Before the chip I struggled to get near 48mpg, but after Ive seen it as high as 56mpg on a 100 mile run, and over 50mpg even when doing a constant 90. I even got 43mpg whilst towing my kit car to Belgium last summer!
It's not quite so good at the moment tho, the cold air drops it back down to high 40's on the motorway unless its traffic limited to 70 or so, but it does go noticably better than it did in the summer.

Speak to Simon Coe, he's one of the two UK authorised installers and will travel pretty much anywhere in the UK to install one. He's a top chap and thoroughly recommended, installed mine at my house in Sussex.
Drop him an e-mail (simon@ccctech.co.uk) if you're after more info.

cheers

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info, how much did it cost you for the chipping?

Whats the most torque the gearbox will take on a Cupra TDi, have there been any probs with chipped Ibiza 130's?

Upsolute costs under £300. Think I paid £280.

Another thumbsup for Simon ~ top bloke and has plenty experience with the techniques required to rework the board in the ECU.

I had my car remapped approx 20 months ago - no problems at all. My car loosened up a little during this period and started to develop a little flywheel oscillation (which can affect the 110 engine when big torque numbers are generated). Simon sent me an alternative file without question to peg back the boost a notch at approx 2000rpm. Job done. :)

ah, good stuff, ive emailed him, just awaiting a response from him, how much did your insurance premium increase by? (assuming you told them :))

mik

Im with Privilege and mine went up about £60, but thats not bad considering the 115 Bora in SE spec is only group 8 to start with, so still much cheaper than my old petrol Cupra to insure.

Cost of the chip was about £300 like Mik said, Simon can also now do it via the diagnostic port which means no dismantling of the ECU, but I think it costs about £75 more because of royalty charges on the software. Possibly worth it with a new car under warranty tho.

Yea, saw that on one of the other forums, can u switch it between stock and enhanced mode like the revo's though as this would be ideal, last thing i would want is for something to go wrong with the car and some bright car mechanic to check to see if its chipped via serial.

Nope you can't switch back with the Upsolute unless its a new option they've introduced within the last few months, but then to get that feature with Revo I think you're going to need to spend nearly £700 for the work itself plus an SPS module to switch, so you can't really compare. Anyway, I don't think that its detectable from normal diagnostics / VAG-COM (best ask Simon about this tho).

I meant that you can't really directly compare the two products (Upsolute vs Revo) and can't hold it against Upsolute for not being able to switch between the two, as its half the price.

My turn..

I was refering to being detectable or not.

LOL, I get you. Yeh very true, tho some dealers seem to be chip friendly anyway according to some on here and on the VW forums, so overlook the fact that it might be chipped.
