Heh. We did this with the wife's Saxo, to get a VTS number plate.
At the time (W-reg) they were all 499, but by waiting six months until the X-reg came out, we saved ourselves 150 as all the prices dropped to 250!
It amazes me when you still see all the adverts in the paper for crap number plates at stupidly high prices, when you can get something similar (and usually better) from the DVLA direct for 250 quid.
