i recently had a new engine rebuilt and was wondering what oil would you reccomend at 1st, its had a averbore so i been told need and oil which will bed the rings in properly,
also after how long would you change the oil and what should i use 2nd time round,
thankyou
Hi
The best oil to use for all stages of running in is the Millers CRO as that's what it's specifcally designed for.
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60229-millers-oils-cro-10w-40-competition-running-in-oil.aspx
You want to change it after about 50 miles, then 200, then 500 and then put the good oil in at 1000 miles.
Don't use any synthetics (even cheap ones) during running in as they lubricate too well and the engine will either take a lot longer to bed in or you end up with glazed bores. Running in is about using friction to wear the rings and cylinders to the same shape. Using a oil that prevents that friction is an expensive waste of time.

ok will order them too,
once engine bedded in what oil would you recomend, going to be pushing about 300bhp at 1st but will also be using water meth.
also having gearbox rebuilt with wavetreck diff fitted in it ,
any oil would recomend for the gearbox,
thankyou,
I would use a 5w-40 synthetic and you will find those through the link below.

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. I would stick with one of the better oils due to the power.
You*need an MTF for the gearbox and I would go with the Redline MTL, Amsoil MTF or Fuchs Sintofluid.

The diff may cause the oils to need changing more often, but they will give better changes than using a diff specific oil.

would the castrol be ok as seen have a offer on this at the min and how do i go about getting the scn discount,
thanks
I used 10W40 Castrol GTX to break my engine in then 5W40 Millers CFS. Castrol Edge 5W30 should be fine to use, a fair few use that, however if driving your car hard I'd move up to a 40W oil.

Yes the Edge will be fine
When you register on the website, there is a dropdown menu of the clubs we support. Select SCN from there, put your username or member number in the next box and then complete the registration. When you look at the site then, you should see the members prices above the normal prices. You pay the members prices, which include the 10% discount.
