Hi all, test drive booked at my local Seat dealership, ( Premier at Stoke-on-Trent ).
for a Leon Cupra. this is because my current car ( 1999 V plate VW Passat SE TDI 110 A/C )
is too big and the suspension/steering is crap. and the mileage 65K. I'm also not happy with the quality of the car and the dealer, for instance.
Repeated problems that are either fobbed off or ignored..

What should I look out for when driving the Leon?

cheers

Dazz

After driving a Passat diesel you should look out for the speed that oncoming hedges will be appearing at!!! HEHE....

Well what can I say,, f**kin quick,

I use a local road as a measure of my cars acceleration, with my Passat TDI 110bhp I can get it upto 80mph by the time I've reached the brow of the hill, in the Leon I was at 110mph...

Also across local country lanes that are ideal for testing handling, brakes and real
power delivery, the car was brilliant..

the only area I found the car lacking to the Passat was in the 1500rpm -2500rpm, but thats where the TDI is in its stride..

Smile implanted on my face, as I went back to the dealer, after a hour's fun driving...

Just got to sort a deal out now.

cheers

Darren

Was it a Cupra TDI you drove?

I own one myselve and I am very pleased. The TDI is very fast, though needs very easy first 2000 Km (I'm dutch, dunno how that period is called in English).

Some disadvantages:
-ESP sucks; if you correct the car yourselve and ESP does the same thing, scary things happen. I turn it off immediately.
-Brake System hasn't enough cooling; You get fading after a while.
-ABS; after the brake-fading occurs you'll hate your ABS system since it is too easy on the tires.
-Mid-console; The area where the radio is is a bit too wide. If you like sitting close to the steeringwheel you'll hurt your knee when cornering left fastly http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif .
-My Recaro squeaks a bit (after two weeks). But maybe something under my chair; must have a look on that.
- The TDI has a bit short first and second gear.
- I didn't go real easy on my engine the first 2000 Km (might have some power loss now, dunno).

But apart from the upper disadvantages I encourage you to buy this car. It really rocks http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif !

Well another test drive this weekend, with my mate and girlfriend along for there opinions etc...

Deal on the table is £14995 + £240 for metallic paint, discount £1200 which equals 7.8%

How does this compare with anyone elses deals
from a UK Seat dealer.

car is still very good, and if the dealer shifts on the p/x price i will be ordering..

next question which colour???? http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif

My user name says it all!!! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/cool.gif

The only two colours that are exclusive to Cupra's/20VT's is yellow and bronze.

all the other colours are available in all the other models, so if u want your car to stand out as a genuine 20VT and not a tarted up 1.4 16v you know what to get!!

Bronze wasn't my choice as we ended up with a cancelled order (albeit a high spec one!)
Really fancied flash red but the bronze really grows on you-will pick a decent colour (if) Leon Cupra R EVER hits these shores!!!Luv the Cars-shame 'bout the marketing & aftersales backup (and i'm the Dealer for this manufacturer in Jersey!!!!)

Sorry boyz

Yellow is Urgh!! Bronze is even worse.
colour choice comes down to Metallic black
( If they can make there minds up over this or matt black ), Artic Grey, or the Imperial blue http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/eek.gif !!

Question to ZBOYD..??? My Passat TDI is pearl effect pacific blue,, it is nearly the colour as Seat's Imperial blue, my paint marks easily, does your's?? http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/cool.gif

cheers

Yup i noticed it does mark easily, it seems its a very soft compound of paint. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif

Im hoping i can get an area manager soon to look at my car and give me his opinion, i think it should of been protected better in the first place, and like the lads at Ameythst do, offered the paint protection when i bought it last september.

Other than that it looks really nice, but i've discovered Zymol waxes recently, by a friends recomendation, its really good stuff and puts a really good protective barrier on the paint work.

Its hard work to apply, but the results are well worth the effort in my opinion.

I've just taken a 20VT for am test drive and my reaction is the same as Ecklad's. Really quick and a definite improvement over the 97 16v Cupra Ibiza I currently have.
Just a couple of questions;
Can the standard 1.8 20vt be truly be called a Cupra as it is now coming w/o all the extras the original Leon Cupra came with?
Also, is Onvi Yellow and Copper the only 2 "cupra" colours?
Also, anybody willing to put a value on a 16v 97 Ibiza cupra with 44000 miles? Hoping to sell privately. Very few in Ireland and realistic values hard to work out?

Somebody shoot me if I am wrong....But I'm pretty sure that you can't buy a Leon In Ovni Yellow or bronze unless it is a 20VT.

You could get a 20VT in any colour, but Bronze ond Ovni yellow are exclusive to the 20VT.????

Well after a nannied 15 minute test drive from the local Skoda dealer..

And the downright crap p/x price for my Passat I'm going to ring the Seat dealer to 'do the deal'

The Octavia RS was pretty good and in some respects better than the Leon Cupra ( Alloys etc ) but it will be my car with residuals
and I'm not confident on the Skoda image.

Px deal on a 99 V plate Passat TDI se 110bhp
with aircon and pearl paint, Glasses guide £9500, Seat dealer , £9000, Skoda £8000

crap... car dealers are in a world of there own!!!!

cheers

A lot of dealers don't use Glasses Guide (or equivalent) anymore... quite a few of them use an online 'Expected Auction price' database... since thats where a lot of the px they take end up going...

there is normally quite a bit of diffence between the expected auction price and glasses, in my case it was 900 quid more in glasses, which is why I will be selling privately.

Guys

You will find that most of the trade still use the CAP black book which is the industry standard for pricing. Dealers subscribe to this and it is issued monthly.
