I am looking to get some SD cards for the car I have on order... this is fitted with the Seat Media System E navigation system..

As you may know this has two SD card slots for MP3 playback... The dealer has given me the handbook to read for this system out of there demo car, but it contradicts what SEAT have told me.... The book states that SD or MMC cards upto 32GB can be used.... SEAT say , in addition, SDHC cards are compatible....

Can anyone confirm what size and type do work in there car? If so I can get some purchased and ready for when the car is delivered :)

Thanks

Stuart

Not sure if this is the same system found in the MK2 FL Leon (media system 2.1)

If so, a 32 Gig SD is the largest capacity it will take. I ordered a sandisk 32gig SD card this week to put my itunes library on, for when my car arrives.

You might have to format the SD card in the media system before you can start filling it up with your media. :)

Thanks for that :) Not sure if the system is the same... did you use SDHC cards?

Ordered a 32gig SDHC (sandisk) from play.com £51.99 Delivered.

What contradiction did SEAT say regarding the system?

When I spoke to SEAT "So called" Customer Care, they said the system will work with SD or SDHC cards upto 16GB...

The Dealer who has ordered the car for me, loaned me the handbook on Saturday for the system out of there demo car, this states SD or MMC cards upto 32GB.... although it also states the 400 file limit in the book... no mention of SDHC...

I think they have not used the full description when describing what cards can be used.

Micro SDHC cards are the ones normally found in Mobile phones (tiny in size), normal SD cards SDHC ones are used in digital cameras.

I think they mean standard SDHC cards can be used (camera type ones)

Not sure about the 400 file limit though.

I have emailed SEAT again just to confirm this ;) see if they reply.... Like you say the may just state "SD" but this includes "SDHC" as well... I do know that the reader needs to be "SDHC" compatible to work...

I don't have a problem with the 400 file limit, if it exists, the unit has two slots, so 800 tracks should keep me going :)

I think SD cards only go up to 2GB IIRC so anything over that will be a SDHC.

If they say it will take upto 32GB then this will include SDHC cards.

That could explain it... just found this on Wikipedia

Standard SD: 1 MB to 4 GB
SDHC: 4 GB to 32 GB
SDXC: 32 GB to 2 TiB

So, if it states upto 32GB it MUST inc SDHC :) they must just, as stated above class SD in the book to mean SD & SDHC as well as MMC cards

Thanks for the replies..

Excellent, at least I know the 4GB SDHC I have at home will work :) Do you just "drag & drop" the folders to the card?

Thank you... is there a limit to the number of files/folders/tracks you can put on each disc? The manual the dealer gave me to look at stated the limit was 400.....

I picked up my ST on Monday and am chuffed to bits with it - the only grumble I have is with the iPod interface- really only any good for charging my iPhone- if only the housing wouldn't come out of the glove box each time I tried to take the phone out:rolleyes:

So it led me to try the SDHC route- I chucked in an old no name 16gb card that I formatted and so far have about half filled it with MP3s each artist with their own folder- which I can browse through almost like explorer style- all tags are diplayed as they should.

So I'm more than happy to use the SD slots over the iPod 'interface' - happy days

I have purchased 2 4GB SDHC Scandisk cards to use... that should give me enough to be going on with... only use the car at weekends most of the time....

Mine is being built this week... or should be :) and delivered by last week October... Dealer said there was no change on the system, and all was on schedule... Can't wait to pick it up...

I've just bought an 8gb card- so now i have his 'n' hers :D

Stuart, the Bose system is spot on mate, never been an audiophile ,always been happy to hear my music and as I've got older - not necessarily so loud but the Bose makes you want to crank it up that little bit more:D

I can't believe how bad the iPod interface is - 6 playlists with nothing but track number to tell you what you could be listening to... Not sure my 3 year old wants to listen to rage against the machine :(

The dealer gave me the book for there demo to look at, I did notice that the IPod was only using 6 playlists... This is because it uses the "old" CD Changer socket ... only 6 discs :(

SDHC seems the best way to go :)

I copied my whole itunes folder on my pc into a separate folder, and ran a conversion program. It changed all files from .acc, wma, ect to mp3 160bit format, so the quality is still ok. It also copied all files paths and song names.

I now have 4,700 songs on a 32gig SDHC card, with 4gig left to spare :funk: Happy days.

I tried a Play.com own brand SD card in the loan Exeo I had and that worked, but just wondered if any should be avoided. Guess I'll stick with what I know, cheers :)

Well I ended up buying a couple of these: http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/16596517/Transcend-16GB-SDHC-Class-10-Memory-Card/Product.html

All loaded up and ready for Monday when the car gets delivered :D

I went for this option over and above the iPod as, like others have said, it's just too limited. I have bought an iPod dock extension cable and an adapter that allows it to charge my iPhone, so that's my backup plan should I need it.

RobM

No need for the backup plan in the end, the cards I linked to above work perfectly :)

I spent an age selecting folders from my MP3 collection, copied them to the 'out of the box' 32Gig SD card (~£20 off ebay - brand new!!).

When I plugged it in to the car it said it was corrupt :censored:

I wonder if anybody know what block size/allocation size to use for the FAT32 format on a 32Gig card?

Here's the compatibility chart (it's at the end) (had to change the '/' to '\' as I cannot post URL's as a noob)

www seat at\countries\at\files\seat_exeo_multimedia_2011.pdf

Mine is 'Class 6'.

en wikipedia org\wiki\Secure_Digital

So is faster than the 'class 4' mentioned in the specs.

I'm assuming I should therefore be OK?

Unfortunately the internet is awash with fake memory cards, it may well be that yours turns out to be one of these. This article may be of some help: http://fightflashfraud.wordpress.com/2009/06/18/fake-capacity-32gb-sd-card/
The going rate for a class 6 32GB SDHC card seems to be at least £40 so if yours was half that price I'd definitely be more than just a little suspicious.

RobM
19-02-2011, 21:59
£20 for a 32GB SD card is way too cheap and eBay is way too dangerous when it comes to fake SD cards. Put those two thoughts together and I think Dark Andrew has it spot on.

It's also worth noting that it's not particularly difficult to make an SD card report a much larger capacity than it actually is, so when you insert it into your computer, everything looks fine and dandy.

Well.... it looks like you were correct.

The memory card is a fake - the seller has vanished off ebay and removed the item. Paypal will (hopefully) protect me and give me a refund but it's not the end of the world if not.

Thanks for the pointer - I'll buy the play.com ones listed above and learn my lesson.

I'm sure it wont make you feel any better, but you're far from the first and certainly not the last person to be scammed with these :(

Fingers crossed for a quick resolution for you.
