A few months ago I took out a cupra 20v t and was amazed with it's power looks, handling... So have put down a deposit on a brand new Seat Leon Cupra 20V T, Which I pick up on the 1st March 2004!!!!!!!!
Thing is since finding your forum pages, all I seem to see is problems i.e.: misting up in car, leaking seals, clutch problems etc....
Can anyone please give me an honest answer about the Cupra's reliability!!!!!!!
Because I now have doubts about buying what I thought was an amazing car...

Many thanks Pete..

Hi Pete
Try looking from a different perspective...I've had mine 11 months and still think its a great motor to own. sure it mists up sometimes ,So what its got a good rear window demister !!! a lot of the gripes surrounded the faulty coilpacks, yours will not have that problem !!!! codensation in lights...door seals...paint quality ,yes all this may be true but it still does well in motoring surveys against more exspensive equipment . Try asking if its an enjoyable car in a country which is becoming more unfriendly towards motoring, and trust your own judgement if you think its going to make you smile then enjoy driving it whie you can :) :) :)

If your worried about mechanical realiabilty, then don't. Seeing as all the complex mechanics are Audi parts, sucha s engine and gearbox, then those parts will have the same reliabilty as an Audi. If something does go wrong with the eingine its usually electrical and won't stop you fomr using your car. It usually just needs a new part.

The only problem you might have are build quality issues, seals not sealed and some sqeaks and rattles. Not that common and will be fixed under warranty for free.

Bear in mind that those who post their problems on this forum are the minority but it seems to create a disproportionate illusion of reliability issues. It'd be rather dull if all those who don't encounter problems posted...

"Car OK today/this week/this month".

New cars of all marques have some form of reliability problems, but please don't be unduly concerned about what you read here. I own an MY03 Leon Cupra and most problems (e.g. coilpacks, door leaks, etc.) were fixed in the factory. Your MY04 should be the most reliable yet.

Yeah gareth is right - we all have problems with our cars from time to time but generally speaking the Leon is a heck of a good car. I've had niggles - but that's all - mechanically it's being more than i could of wanted :)
Any car marque has problems - but the Cupra is prolly the best car you can buy for that sorta money! Never regreted it once myself!

;) Thanks for taking the time to respond to my message!
It's so easy to get the wrong picture by looking at just bad things and not looking any further!!!!!
If I were to tell you all the problems I have had with ford cars I’ve owned, well you'd fall asleep...

Cannot wait until March 1st...and thanks again

Pete most of the issues you highlighted have now been resolved and were common to earlier production runs. As said above your car should be the most relaible yet so don't lose any sleep over it, you've made a good choice and you'll get real value for money and a great car to go with it.

Also bear in mind some people who post on here are, how shall me say it, perfectionist's.

The number of posts from people saying I kerbed an alloy, its a bit scratched,i have to buy a new one is amazing.

Don't worry too much, youre getting a fantastic car.
And I say that despite my three week old leon cupra going into the dealers for a week to have several niggles and a severe issue with the wipers fixed.
Every car is going to have it's problems, nothings perfect. I had a Fiat before and had a nightmare with reliability and like everyone elee has said its VAG underneath and so as far as the mechanics go its pretty much bulletproof.

In the three weeks I've had the car it's constantly put a smile on my face for the driving experience, once its back from the dealers with some working windscreen wipers, I'm sure the smile will be abck on pretty quick, especially after I smoke some scrote in his nova at the lights :p

PS: ANyone checked this weeks Auto Express, comparing second hadn residuals of the Leon vs the Golf, the Golfs second hand values are getting hit while the Leons looking like a good holder of value :D

has to be said if we all posted about a trouble free day of motoring, it would be very boring and the sys admins would have a hell of a job stopping the site from crashing :D :D

our lc has been in the family for just over a year, i love smoking novas, corsa's and paxo's. cheers me right up, and the kids prefer it to the range rover (filistines :D )

I've had all the problems associated with the car over the last 54000 miles..

My footwell leaks in occasionally in bad rain..but it dries again when I use it..

My coilpacks failed...and were replaced under warranty

My rear seats squeak......

I don't think the clutch is a weak area..or at least mines still strong after 54000 miles and the last 12000 with Revo's 235ftlbs of torque....

Has it put me off...No
Do I wonder if I will break down every time I get in the car..No
Would I have another..Yes

Chill man and enjoy.....

bet if you do a search for 'great' 'happy' etc you'll end up with more results than 'leak'

everyone is happy when they get the car (and most are happy throughout) just that leaks etc wind you up, so you tend to make more noise over that than a good thing.

Plus you don't get so many replies to a post if there's nothing up with your car :)

They're not that bad - fella here just bought an Onvi X plater on the weekend, it's mint inside & out & he loves it. Even found the old owner & spoke to them who was happy with it too.

if it were perfect prolly wouldn't have tinkered and THAT is where the fun lies. Driving the car is a pleasure but it is a hoot after you've done something new and go to try it out. Almost everytime I change something I say no more - I drive it and the car/chassis has improved and I start thinking of other things.

I've had a dodgy stereo and a cracked windscreen and a squeaky rear seat - and the dealers treat me as a close friend - still love the car coz it has character and not anodine like a beemer or even an Audi
