am i right in thinking that on the mk3 screen on the dashboard if the ac icon flashes it means low gas and if the silouette of the car flashes that means compressor failure or something equally as bad

I had the same problem. Just got it fixed yesterday.

Problem was damaged pipe and so all the gas leaked away. Replaced the pipe and re-gased. All done under warranty, so I have no idea how much it would cost.

I don't know exactly where my leak was, they just said it was a small pipe that was damaged. They replaced the pipe and it hasn't leaked since.

Is your car not under warranty any more? If it is, take it straight to the dealers! Did the place you got the dye put in at not suggest anything?

it was at the dealers, and i got to wait ages before my next appointment, hope they just replace the pipe and it is ok, it is the pipe with the expanded piece of metal in the middle like a canister (whatever that is or does i dont know) on the top pipe directly in the compressor

nice wheels by the way 17"?

Took me bloody ages to get that pipe. Sems that on some 51+ plate ibiza's the steel fuel line vibrates against the small (aluminium) A/C coolant pipe.

Bugger - another one of my warranty visits (i'm writing a book on them). It's a bit like Lord of the Rings....but bigger :(

Hi Dormouse

How long did it take you before that pipe was dilivered to the dealers?

my car is a 2000 W reg , its in for 2 days at the end of the month for an examination and then order the part for the next day, fitted and regased and hopefully fixed, but then life isnt that simple is it

By the way doormouse, couldnt you have just replaced the 'O' ring at the end of the pipe to get the seal back?

Pipe took about 3-4 weeks on back order.

Replace what O-ring? the ally pipe had physically breached by the steel fuel rail.

Hi Dormouse

thought there was a rubber 'o' ring seal at the end of the screw thread to keep the pressure in, my pipe is ok, just leaking at the joint between the compressor and the top pipe
