I'm sticking to my Frankly Rubbish assumptions, for a start the silver coloured bits look saft, the bumpers are hardly 'redesigned' when compared to the Leon Cupra (FR), and the Ibizas new engine line up is as muddled as hell!

although, hmm, wondering if its possible to nab some bits from the FR, to fit to the Sport TDI...namely the Front Roll bar..

Stick some 20mm spacers on at the back maybe 10mm at the front and it will look a lot harder. Suffers from that old Beezer problem of 'wheels lost in the arches'.
I like the wheels themselves though. Photoshop someone please?! Lets see it with a more butch stance.
Wonder if it will be badged in the UK as FR at all? We don't get many of the other European spec names as it is.
It will be badged FR in the UK.
excerpt from an earlier UK press release.
"SEAT has unveiled its latest and most sporty model in the Ibiza range, the Ibiza FR (Formula Racing). The Ibiza FR, equipped with a 1.8 litre 20-valve 150 PS (110 kW) engine, made its debut at the Bologna Motorshow today (4 December) and is scheduled for sale in the UK early in 2004."
Cupra R is to be dropped too according to reports in the press, all really hot models will be known as 'Cupra' only from now on.
Still be sticking to the MK3....
What is meant to be apealing about it??

its the quickest petrol MK4 Ibiza so far?
Lots of people (eg company car drivers) seem to trade in after 3 years, so I guess it'll suit those who are doing that.
Also, I guess by not branding it so overtly sporty, there's the benefit of it being a lower insurance group (although that remains to be seen), than if it had the full on body kit à la cupra.
Hopefully these will come as standard on the Cupra!!
Volumetric alarm
Head airbag
Passenger airbag disconnection
Door mirrors with electric parking position
Cruise control
ESP+EBA
Leather upholstery
Navigation system
6 CD loader in glove compartment
Rain sensing wipers
Xenon headlamps
Telephone pre-installation
Electric sunroof
Metallic paint

why? surely most of those would add weight to the car making it slower? :D
Would be nice if proper Xenons and Electric door mirrors are available as dealerfit options though....(so we can get them fitted to our Sport TDI's :) )
Any info on the likely price?
Cheers
Ben
My guestimate would be no more than 14K, surely?

Note that in mainland europe there were many more options offered on the mk3 Ibiza that we were simply never allowed to specify in the UK - presumably because Seat UK decided for us that we wouldn't want them.
Xenon lights - yes, would be nice, but to the best of my knowledge the only RHD markets Seat currently export to are the UK and Ireland (don't think they've ever tried Japan and they dropped out of Australia a few years ago), I don't see them going to the bother of re-designing the lenses & reflectors just for us... I could be wrong, but i'd not be holding my breath...

the women from the SEAT press office said a month or so ago they were hoping for under 13k to undercut the pug 206 GTI and be also in competition with the citroen C2 VTS.
They are going to have to watch how they price this one as if they price it too high it will make the cupra version even more expensive and then its rivals.
The sportiest, most powerful Ibiza model, to date.
nice but
the old model was not only sportier but more powerful ?
still looks a good car though
who wants to bet the cupra gets a 210 ? bet it's 180 :p

I too bet they use the 180bhp, but i'm sure they'll tune it up to the 200 mark (revo wont be happy!)
Imagine it did come in the 210 version, jesus! What sort of bhp could you expect if revo'd??
Audi use a 190bhp version of the engine, more flavours than the local kebab house :D
Just a quick reminder.
This is what the Ibiza FR should have looked like...

Even with those biggish wheels it STILL needs spacers!

They already do RHD versions of Xenons, I got them when I imported from Holland :D
So you never know. It would be good if they did, then if anything went wrong with mine they'd know how to fix them...

Call me a cynic but just because they're available doesn't mean Seat UK will let us have them... :(

Ahem... UK spec pre-MY03 Leon Cupra... and that didn't do too badly...
As i said earlier in the thread the UK press release indicates that it will be launched early this year in the UK.

In the ibiza cupra
The ETKA parts list shows the cupra ibiza will be a 179bhp hope it gets updated before launch and actually comes with the 190PS engine from the audi A4 sport at least.
If not it will be underpowered compared to its rivals.
the clio 182/Pug 206GTI180 are both lightweights and have about the same power.
Then of cause later this year you get the Vauxhall corsa GSI turbo, and the Ford fiesta ST and also fiesta RS versions this year too.
Then the year after you get the new clio with two renault sport versions a 182 (same engine as the present clio182) and a 2.0 turbo version with a detuned engine from the megan sport. This will be 200bhp in the clio and 225 in the megan.
then of cause if SEAT overprice the ibiza FR and so then have to overprice the Ibiza cupra it will fall into competition with the Honda civic Type R with its 197bhp.
So as i said they will have to watch how they price these two cars, And also IMHO uprate the cupra ibiza petrol to at least 190PS or its going to be slated by the press.
The only saving grace will be the 160bhp TDI cupra ibiza when it comes out and by all thats been released so far the TDI version will be out at least 2 months earlier than the petrol ibiza cupra so should help build the image.

Good comments.
Even the 190ps from the Adui A4 will still struggle to compete with the competition. I remember the days when SEAT used to lead the field in creating the hottest hatch. Wasn't the Cupra R 180bhp the most powerfull hot hatch for a while??
179bhp!...we need to move on, this unit powered out hottest hatch 5 years ago!! Who's going to buy a new hot hatch with the least bhp when compaired to its competitors?? Maybe SEAT know that so many of us pay to chip the cars ourselves!!
2.0 Clio Turbo...good god! Sh!t of a shovel springs to mind!!
If SEAT don't get this Ibiza Cupra right i might start looking eleswhere, shame!
P.s That Fiesta RS could be very interesting. I quite like the new fiesta (its robust looking)...i think Ford have got themselves a good body shape to make the flagship look the dogs!!
