View Full Version : Strange Noise

Got a new middle and back box on yesterday, now there is a horrible noise when booting it.

It sounds like a scraping/knocking noise and its driving me mad.

Took it back where i got the exhaust fitted and everything seemed in order, i even looked under the car myself with the mechanic.

He seemed to think it may be the brakes, but it sounds to me like its coming from underneath the middle of the car.

Any ideas?

I seriously thinking about getting rid, as since i've had it, the clutch return braket snapped off, it hesitates around 3K revs (not all the time, but a lot of it), starts up then cuts out, and as i got into work tonight, it sounded like it was going to die:

The revs just seemed to plumment, so i knocked the lights and fan off and it settled around 500 revs, kind of like just chugging along.

Sounds like big bill on the way (its also due a new cambelt), so i am seriously thinking about part exing it for something like a pug 306 D turbo.

PLEASE HELP!

Mate,

The hesitating @ 3,000rpm could be due to a couple of things... HT leads, spark plugs or rotor arm.

The same thing happened to mine a few weeks back. So I ordered a new set of HT leads, new sparks and a new rotor arm from ECP, all for about £30.

Only got round to changing the HT leads, and that seems to have cured the problem.

This will probably sort out your stalling problem. By the sounds of it, it looks like your HT leads have got damp, and aren't function properly.

As for the exhaust, try getting the car up on ramps, and grab hold of the tailpipe (when cold!!) and give it a real hard shake, front-to-back and side-to-side, also up-and-down. it's probably catching something under the car. Heat sheild's usually a favourite.

Hope that helps.
