Hi

What is the best oil to use for a Seat 1.4 petrol engine (75 PS)? The manual says VW 500 00/501 01/502 00. Is 500 00 better than 502 00? I topped up with Castrol GTX Magnatec (500 00), but am interested in Repsol Multiválvulas (502 00).

Also, does anybody know where in the UK I can get hold of Repsol oil? Alternatively, what brand do people recommend? The car is a Seat Ibiza 1.4S, registered October 2003.

Thanks

To reply to my own question - my local dealer uses Shell Helix Plus 10W/40 - a semi-synthetic oil meeting 500 00. The specs of this seem to match those of Castrol GTX Magnatec, and at a lower price. I take it there is no benefit in using a fully synthetic oil in the 1.4 engine? (I do go up to 5000 rpm when accelerating - warmed up engine however.)

Is there a 502 00 oil available in this country, and how does it differ to 500 00?

Chuck any old thing in as long as it's changed faily often you won't have too many problems with modern oils.
Semi-synthetic is fine in a normally aspirated engine.
It's the PD diesels (and 20vt's to a lesser extent) that are fussy.
The PD's need good oil for their injector systems and anything with a turbo needs oil with a good high temperature rating.
Personally I'd rather have reasonable quality oil changed more frequently than ultra-expensive oil changed once a year or so.
