View Full Version : Anyone Tried 225/50/16s ????
Just wondering......since 17" optional Seat-Sport wheels come with 225/45/17's on a 7" wide rim, you can obviously put 225/50/16's on the standard Cupra multispoke rim ('cos they are 7x16).....
Rolling radius is identical (actually that's a lie, they'd be 0.8mm smaller radius, so your gearing would reduce by 0.08%, so with 70mph on the speedo, you'd only be doing 69.9mph) (added all this just in case anyone got picky http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/rolleyes.gif http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif)
If you've tried it.....whadya think?

I run 225/50 r16's on my leon on the standard multispoke alloys and have found better cornering grip (lot more surefooted on the road), a lot more difficult to wheelspin because of the better grip,
But it doesnt seem to be any better in the wet for some reason unknown to me, in fact its probably very slightly worse!!,
But if the back end kicks out its easily controlled still with that width of tyre,
I use Bridgestone Potenza s-03 Pole position's and they are excellent!

Thanks Mosser - doesn't surprise me that they are worse in the wet - wider tyres are in general ('cos you've got to clear more water to get the rubber through to the surface).
Surprised this isn't a more popular (easy) upgrade though http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif

Be warned though that tyres like that are £130 each!! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif , and these bridgestone's seem to be quite a bit softer than most tyres and are wearing quite quickly, I estimate i am only gonna get about 20-25,000 miles out of them !! (the original tyres did 29,000 befor they were knackered)

Bloody hell.... 29,000 miles on a set of tyres on a Cupra!!! Did you tow it around on a trailer or something?
Mine has only got 4000 miles on it at the moment but my old Toledo V5 needed a new set on the front every 10,000 or so... http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

Most of my driving is motorway miles which are easy on the tyres!, Yesterday i drove from bracknell, up to york, then down to birmingham, then back home to bracknell, 531 miles in total and only about 15 of those miles were non motorway!!,
and i dont drive it slow, if fact i thought i had blown my engine yesterday as i was following a scooby and changed from 5th gear to 4th gear at just under 130mph (acidentally, meant to go to 6th), the revs went off the scale and it felt like i had jammed the brakes on as it slowed down and it let out a great big puff of grey smoke which is when i thought my engine had died as it ran a bit rough for 10 seconds then went back to normal, although it doesnt seem as powerful now
, i wonder if i have a fault code thats dropped the power?
