I've recently taken delivery of your 144 x 20mm con rods which look great and a set of your rod bearings to suit which i believe are oem. My 1.8T engine has the AMK engine code. What my concern is that all eight half bearings are the same but get when you order from a dealer the upper and lower bearing have different part numbers as apparently the upper half of the rod bearing take more force and is made harder and stronger than the lower. Can you confirm that the OEM bearings you have supplied are adequate as they all look the same and don't look to be upper or lower specific.
i know you do the calico rod bearing as well but most people over here just use the OEM lower and upper so thats why i didn't go for the coated ones. Many thanks for your advice.

Are they deffo tangless? We always fit the bearings with the tangs to the IE rods. Its only the 'sputter' bearings which are upper or lower. The non sputters are top and bottom.

My mistake Alex, the bearings do indeed have a tang to match the recessess on the rods. These are the rods and bearings.

I'm just a little concerned as why when ordered from a seat dealer the stock LCR rod bearing comes with two separate part numbers indicating they are different items and not all the same like the pack i have. i just want to get it right.

I use Calico's
cheaper than OE

I believe vag's pricing is simply misleading & incorrect - same items, under different numbers.

Calico's / ACL work for me

Cheers Bill, you'll be fitting them LOL.;)
I suppose its like head bolts, oem are fine up to a point but big power may be best served by ARP. I think my 350 bhp @ 7000rpm max should do OK on the OEM shells, i hope.

I'm sure that's the rod bearings I got for my IE rods, no problems to date.

Thanks mate, i've read that oem rod bearings are made to very high quality and only need to be upgraded past 500bhp / 8000rpm applications which on my k04 hybrid even with my positive thinking i doubt will be reached. :)

Are yours all 8 in the same box and are they marked upper and lower specific as i believe the splutter bearing is the top one.

If you have the sputters, then they are all in the same box and 4 have sputter marked on them and yes they are the top bearings. :)

tps are good for needing parts fast, but their discount structure is controlled by VW which is the issue.

PM'd on the question.

I've just taken them out of the packet and they are all identical, but four have the part no 34015 stamped on them and the other four are marked with 34017, these are the only distinguishing marks. Other than sending an email to Kolbenschmidt asking which is upper and which is lower does anyone have any idea or am i being ott.

They are more than likely batch numbers. I have looked throught the KS book and the numbers you are quoting are not shown.
