This info has been brought to our attention and we think its important that everyone is made fully aware of the situation as we know many owners have tinted cars.

This is relevant to all tints, not just pentagons, so be aware of the new regulations.

My pimp tints are legal (i think) as they're 30% afaik. Still big whoop as there's no police about to enforce it now is there? I mean, it's just as illegal to drive round with led washer jets, your fog lights on, defective lights etc.. and i see tons of them every day..
If you get pulled for some reason then wind then front windows down before the officer gets out his car ;)

My understanding has always been that if tints allow more than 80% of light through then they are Ok. Any less then they are illegal. The ino on that website doesn't make it clear what the new legal limit is.

Thanks for the info though.

Bit strange as the standard glass in many cars is tinted.

Cheers

As they say the section covering the road traffic act is currently being amended, its not become law yet, but will soon, and will be backdated to this month.

Once its published im sure we'll knwo the full details, but it does say that those with tints, as long as they are deemed the legal type before the law change, they will be given grace, seems to be another rushed arsed about tit British law to be honest.

How do they know whether you got the tints before or after the new law?

ZBOYD

Exactly, a case of a UK law gone daft again.

By grace i think they mean if your stopped with tints forward of the B pillar, you will be given a retification notice, ie remove the tints within 10 days then take it to the local cop shop to prove youve done it, then your not charged.

If you dont then you'll be prosecuted, and that applies to legal tints too, ie any tints forward of the B pillar legal or otherwise now fall under this new legislation.

As i say UK law gone mad, big brother 1984 eh great aint it :p

I would imagine the only way they could do it is leave it until March and then say any car with a 53 plate or older is OK, 04 on cannot be tinted.

Same as they did for the new reg font, yellow/white plates,multi-tone air horns, seat belts etc.

Be interesting to see how they treat a car that has no B pillar to speak of (I thinking something like an A4 Cab here)??

Multi tone air horns? Do you mean multi tone or ones that play a tune? AFAIK a 3 trumpet air horn which plays a slightly different frequency out of each trumpet is fine (Halfords etc sell them)... unless you know otherwise.

Good question. I wonder if the rear pillar in these cars is still called the C pillar, or if its called the B pillar instead?

so if Pentagon remove my front tints for free, do the police pay for the cost of my initial outlay? I wonder how this would stand up in court?

Next they'll be stopping people wearing sunglasses while driving!

Anyone want to buy some pentagon tints?

not amused.

It's mad, Why did they not just properly enforce the legal limit that was already there? Because you have to do some work then...

Oh and LED Washer jets aren't illegal according to the TVP.

Oh and Yell which tints do you have I'll swap glass with ya :D

Pentagon Midnight tints all round, nice job they did too.

I'm lost as to what to do, either hang on until such time as I get pullled over and then arrange for them to be changed or deal with it before...

I think I'll leave it for a while and see what happens...

Clive,

I had a chat with Pentagon a couple of weeks ago. Best advice is to leave them as they are. They are within the "goodwill zone" ie. if we were to be pulled over we would have 10 days to get them removed at the front.

PS. You have smoke on the fronts dude. ;)

not the local c*untstabulary im bothered about its the fact that u r now uninsured of you crash with tints !:O

whats the world coming to , my warrenty is out in september gonna change to 3rd party only to save money as if you crash then they will just find someway not to pay you anyway !
infact i may go whole hog no insurance tax etc , you seem to get a worse sentence for being a law obiding citizen caught doing 120 down the motorway in a totally legal car than you do for driving an unisured dangerous wreck and killing someone (as in the case of that immigrant in the last few days) the worlds gone mad !

My Bammer has tints - Check the SCNSSC link http://www.seatcupra.net/SCNSSC/ Look for me.... My Fronts are the 30% tint, but because of the rest of the tints being dark, my fronts look darker than noraml. I have no intention of removing them, as I can see clearly from them, no issues. They actually help in bright light conditions, night time there is no impact on light, its dark anyway!!! Why does the law just deal with the aspects of law that needs to be tackled, like rapist's murders etc etc. Just leave us alone, we pay for our car's, we buy Tax disks for them Insure them! & then we get stupid laws like this!

does this mean that cars manufactured will not be allowed to have tinted front windows,at all?
sun glare will be causing more fatalities than tints.:(

Don't forget most modern cars have a tint to the glass as standard, so a 30% tint film on top would push them over the legal limit, happened to me in my old Focus :(

Does this mean in theory that with these tints on my car at the moment I am not insured?!

Since this thred started I have been stopped by Plod and a chap from the dept of transport, given 10 day notice to remove tints which have now been taken off front windows.

They also made me change my led sidelights for std bulbs.

Not happy bunny! :(

I suppose it depends on the insurance company.

Mine (Greenlight) are even covering the value of my tints as part of my policy.

Tesco do with mine too, just worried that if they are illegal then I wouldnt be covered if some thing happened.

If you have the tints included on your policy with the percentage included and they are covering you I don't see them creating a problem.
