I'm going to make a couple of assumptions about one click.

1) the One Click device plugs into the OBDII port & copies your entire ECU code onto itself, then uploads a new version (performance)

2) you download ALL of the 1Mb EEProm file

3) you upload ALL of the 1Mb EEProm file (filled with noise?)

4) the max port speed of OBDII is about 14.4Kb/s

so rough maths would mean that about 500seconds to download, follwed by roughtly 650 seconds to upload?

really off the cuff numbers for time - but just curious as that's a total of about 20 mins?

Strange stuff I sometimes think about - but I'm guessing that you can't transmit really fast down 2 wires.

Am I missing the point?

Not having a dig, just trying to work out that if it's 20 mins, it's 20 mins - if it's not 20 mins, then surely you can't be downloading & uploading all of the ECU contents?

I'm pretty sure that 80%+ of the EEPROM memory is unused and s doesn't need to be downloaded or uploaded. I believe that some tuning companies use this space to store extra maps, and then allow you to switch between them (Without needing to reupload the new program.).

you can transfer very fast down 2 wires. Flashing the chip is the slow bit.

Not really, the Am29F010 that the ECU's use has a maximum time of 15seconds (if i'm reading it right)

it's the speed that the ECU can send at, not what the maximum a pair of wires can transmit at (ADSL would be an example)
