Is my compressor ok, i can see it spinning around on the pully but the centre with the bolts on is stationary, is that normal, im just worried because my as indicator is flashing and i dont know if it is low gas or the compressor

Yes thats fine, it just means it is declutched at the time you looked. The compressor pulley has an electromagnetic clutch in it which is used to turn the system on and off. When you press the AC button you may hear a small metalic clunk from under the bonnet as it engauges.
However, make sure that at some point it does actually clutch in and the whole lot starts to spin, ie turn AC to full cold with fans on, if it doesn't you may be low on gas pressure, which overrides the clutch on signal and prevents the compressor being damaged by lack of lubricant.
