my grandad might be considering a new car low cost, towing suitable for a single axle caravan, mostly town driving but the odd bit of distance driving.

what do you think the exeo is suitablity wise for them for these points above and they are in there 70's

cheers for the time in reading

I looked in to this recently, as the Mrs was talking about getting a caravan.

The Exeo saloon has a safe towing weight of 1,800kg's, so they would be fine with a single-axle 'van.

They would probably want to go for something like the SE spec, which is not as low as the SE Lux or the Sport, and is a more comfortable ride. The Sport can be a little harsh for those not used to sports suspension etc.

spec'd one up for him this is the spec any good

SE 2.0 TDI CR 120PS
track grey
se trim black cloth
detachable towbar
ipod connection
£20.665

pretty basic but for a 72 year old he isnt into anything fancy like the sat nav system as he has his tomtom and he wont be bothered about bose speaker system or xenon headlights

is there anything else i would need

whats motorway mpg like on these as his rover 75 can get nearly 55 on motorways

Hi

I have an SE lux 143 TDI and on the motorway I can get around 55-65 as per the trip computer and the engine is still bedding in...

Hope this helps

If it's not 100% out of the question, go for the 143 tdi at least. The power hike is welcome with a caravan. The same applies for the xenons..

In this case, purely personal preference, I'd skip the metallic paint and iPod connection and go for more power and/or xenons. There's an aux-in connection standard so he can hookup tomtom audio there and play music through the tomtom either with tomtom iPod cable or from tomtom sd-card and get tomtom voice directions through car speakers.. much louder and easier to hear. Also when dark, I think his eyesight isn't probably what it used to be so the added range and brightnes of xenons is more than welcome..

Just my 2c

Yeah, definitely go for at least the 143CR, as the extra power (and torque more importantly) will be a god-send when towing a caravan.

One thing to remember, as folk grow older their eyes become a bit more demanding of lighting levels, Xenons provide a lot more light and do overcome that age related problem, so older drivers should be thinking about adding Xenons into their car spec.
