Hi guys,

Thought you might be interested in my tale of woe:

I picked up my brand spanking new Cupra from the dealership in Droitwich on Saturday morning. I immediately noticed that the dash glass (over the speedos) was scratched as though it had been cleaned with a brillo pad. I brought this to their attention and they agreed to replace ASAP, so I let this go and drove the car away. It wasn't long before I noticed the wheel wasn't straight and that the washer jets didn't even hit the windscreen. Also, when I parked up, I noticed that the Cupra badge had been stuck on at an angle. Staying calm and realising that all these issues were resolvable, I relaxed for the evening, looking forward to cleaning my new car the next day (it had been "valetted" aka smear polish everywhere and stick some shiny stuff on the tyres).

Once I had cleaned the car, I immediately noticed some scratches on the roof and one on the boot. Very unhappy at this point, I got the polish out and polished most of them off, all except one which had gone through the paint. Thats when I noticed the dent!

Needless to say I was at the dealership at 9am this morning, and a cheque for the value of the car is already clearing in my bank account! To be fair to the dealership they didn't keep up the "fob off" routine for very long before agreeing the refund (they offered to fill the dent at first!), although I can't see how this car got through the PDI. They are currently sourcing me another one, and we are starting from "scratch" (ho ho).

Cheers,

Jo

Hmmmm.

Sounds like you got a real Friday afternoon special. Funnily enough my steering wheel isn't on straight either. Perhaps this occurs after the Spaniards have all been down the pub at lunch time....

The sales guy has just phoned me asking me to come and look at the dent, saying that it wasn't there when I picked it up (it was).

I told them that I now no longer want to conduct any more business with them. I hope this cheque clears!!

Can anyone fill me in on my rights in case it doesn't?

In other words, he can't trace a replacement car within a reasonable time frame and doesn't want to lose the sale/commission!

The fact that he gave you the cheque in the first place etc means he has absolutely no legal ground to stand on. He's just trying it on. By offering you the cheque he has admitted liability!

Just another scumbag dealer http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/mad.gif to be avoided.

Just stand your ground.

Ive recently had a very similar experience. You will probably of signed a form accepting the car. Once you drive it away, your a little stuck. I had paintwork problems as well. Spoke to Trading Standards, and they said you are not very well covered. If the dealer wants to he can tell you he will fix it. You are surposed to let him try his best. Only if he fails, have you got a case.

The law might soon be changing to cover lemon cars, and give EU citizens the same rights as US ones.

Sorry I cant post better news.

Thanks for the info. I went back to the dealer and didn't leave until I had a hand-written receipt that they had accepted the car back. It was already in their showroom at £14,995. V. worrying

Guess what, i also had a similar experience on picking up my Leon Cupra from my dealer in York,i found scratches to the instruments cover, tailgate, steeringwheel out of align, dirty finger marks on headlining, two dents in doors!and deep scratches on each side of the centre console (as if the radio has been pulled out and left dangling down)
So i quite rightly have no confidence in this dealers aptitude,oh,almost forgot to mention the fact that absolutely no handover whatsoever was given to either myself or my
wife. This is our second new SEAT from two different dealers and the same types of faults have blighted our ownership experience, to anybody out there about to choose a SEAT vehicle please take heed. Choose your dealer very carefully indeed. I wish I had found this owners' site before buying our Leon.
