Firstly, glad to hear you're OK after your near miss mate.
From your (impressive) RR results from Stealth, you gained almost 20 BHP and 35 lb/ft from your mods. How much do you reckon is directly from the tuning box, ie if you were to fit the tuning box but hadn't done the Twin SPT EVO II, what power increases do you think you would see? Also what kind of increase did your insurance company make to your premium?
As far as I remember, it made about 4 or 5 BHP but made a big increase in torque. He's gone tyre shopping and will be back soon.
I also think that his insurance company don't know!
If you're going for it, do it the cheaper way instead of paying lots for a resistor in a pretty box.
When Ian and me spent a day modding the SPT evo2, we were shocked how much the air intake to the air box is restricted by the original pipe. The difference was immense!
Get a tuning box and SPT it, you know you want to.

Mmm, might have to look at the intake system. How exactly is it restricting it? Is the pipe a small bore? Do you think any kind of warranty problems may occur from SPT?

TBH i think if i do get a Tuning Box (as apposed to chip/remap) it'll be one of the good ones (ie Tunit etc)

Howdy.
20BHP increase from standard Thomas!!!
The standard intake is very restrictive, get some SPT in there, even if it's not twin it will make a huge difference.
Tuning box and insurance: What tuning box?
As for the increase in relation to the tuning box I would say pretty much 2/3rds of the increases are down to the box. After installing it I instantly noticed the extra pull - and as I'd got used to the standard feel of being pushed into my seat on acceleration, the box provided that feeling all over again.
For the money you can't go wrong Al, afterall it may only be a resistor in a box but as it comes with the connectors etc you can easily install and remove it and save yourself messing around with solder etc!

Cheers Ian, forget my last post actually, if i can get one for roughly the same price as you paid, then i'll do it quite soon i think :D TBH, like you say - i can't be arsed messing around soldering stuff in to a 4 month old car. If i can just plug in/ unplug then i'll be much happier.
Also think i'll have a look at SPT on mine (probably just single). I'll probably also tell my insurance about the tuning box if/when i get one too as i tend to be a lucky kinda person if you get my drift ;)

Now you've had it a while, has the soot calmed down a bit and has your economy altered much (do you average more or less on a tank compared to standard)??
I have to agree about the air intake on the beeza! I haven't stuck it in the FAQ section yet, but there are quite a few pics around, including the Air Rage intake. Both the intake and the actual airbox are very small.
I'm thinking of fiddling with a CAI system or modifying the present airbox with some 3" tubing.

It's still sooty, but bear in mind - my pipes don't point down ;)
I actually did a calculated (not trip computer) run before and after - fuel economy is deffo better with the box. Now i can get 3 days out of 1 tank - before I had to fill up after the second day as i didn't have enough to last out the third :)

If they don't hang up on me and its not stoopid, then i might order one in the next couple of weeks

It is worth it - afterall - what have you got to loose? £40 is nothing.

Direct Line covered me, when I declared the chip they up the premium by the same percentage as the power increase. Because my chip only claims to give 155bhp - and it shows that on my car invoice - it wasn't too bad (actually got 171 at the RR :D ).
and save yourself messing around with solder etc
Where's the fun in that then eh ?
Guess you won't be wanting to create your own VAG COM unit (http://www.clubb5.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=66907) then :D

Feck, got a quote from Direct Line last night but as i've currently got a DR10 on my license its a no go unfortunately. They couldn't quote me for a tuning box (as she couldnt find it on her computer) so asked for a quote on a chip (ie Revo etc), was an extra £130 between now and end of July or approx another £250 for the year (from July when i renew).
She said it would obviously go up due to the chip but also even more because i also have a DR10. Think i'm gonna have to wait a while then:mad:

Hmm, can't imagine the insurers take too kindly to that...

You imagine right matey, luckily i have full no claims otherwise my premium would be through the roof. TBH Direct Line have been excellent and are by far (by a lot of £$£$£$£) the cheapest insurers i've found. Once that doesn't have to be declared (2 years), then my premium will be very low and then i'll be able to go nuts on my car:D

Can anyone give me a link to the afore mentioned tuning box with details of spec and price?
Cheers,
