Hi,

I have an Ovni yellow Ibiza FR and I have the start of the usual fade (more noticeable between platic and body work). So, any advice on how to stop this now and to to get it back to showroom condition (it is only very noticeable at the moment), as I thought maybe UVA and UVB waxes etc may help? I may get a professional valet done and supply the cleaning products if there are any recommendations, as I've always used Autoglym in the past?

Cheers for any good advice and/or recommendations as it has to be cheaper than a re-spray later down the line!!!

As a last resort, maybe getting it machine polished, bit pricey around 200 but it really brings the paint back (plus it gets rid of all the swirl marks).

Won't that remove the top coat and laker? Although, I suppose reapplying a decent wax etc will protect it again? Where would I get it machine polished (is it eye sort of thing a valeting company could do)?

Cheers for the heads-up though as I just thought I would pay for some (one elses) elbol grease or a decent mop etc?!

No, they would only remove a few microns from the clear coat. However, if I have read comments here and on the Detailing World website correctly, this particular shade of paint fades underneath the clear coat and there is no way to remedy this other than a respray I am afraid (it seems a common problem).

Applying the wax would be more of a prevention than a cure, it may be that the damage has already been done.

Wow I didn't know that. How is it that paint fades anyway, seems like a random question but I don't really know.

UV rays I think, just bleaches colour out of stuff. If you look at things left in shop windows too long it happens to them! With regard to this yellow paint, I think the clear coat does not stop the rays getting through and fading the paint, but it will stop any machine polish from getting to the oxidised paint - so you can't fix it!

Vauxhall Red is famous for fading badly as some cars were sent out with no clear coat. The advantage there is a machine polish will fix the problem and you can then protect it to some degree with wax/sealant.

Sorry to say there is only one cure
Respray really as it fades under the clearcoat no matter how much polishing you do it won't come back I've even tried yellow polish it gives a shine. But the panels are still different shades
I suppose you could try to remove the laquer but It would take some time!

the paints fine, it's the laquer thats the problem. SOME red ones have the issue but its not as common place.

The answer is a respray. Machine polishing gives a temp' gleam but it aint a fix :(
