View Full Version : iPod Cable with Combined USB Aux Option
There have been many posts to do with the iPod cable options so I've added this to help.
This post is for information only and highlights a tested option but does not provide recommendation.
For those cars with the factory fit combined USB and Aux (CUP) option installed there is an optional cable to provide song/album/playlist iPod control from the head unit and steering controls. The head unit provdes the display and is used to navigate the artist/album/playlist etc whilst the steering control will provide track skip/back and volume. The Seat cable is around the £80 mark. However a BMW cable part number 61120440812 will also provide this functionality at about half this price from BMW dealers or cheaper if you search.
This BMW cable has been tested OK for function in a 2011 version SC car and will charge the following units:
iPod Classic 80G
iPhone 3GS
iPod Nano 6th gen touch screen model
* All the above have the same 30 pin dock connector.

It can, but when Techie looked into it, it was prohibitively expensive to do.

How do you get an iPod touch to work?!? It is doing my head in!! I have the cable, it goes through the process of "syncing" but then tells me there is a error?? Any help please? Thanks in advance!

the part number is different to the one mentioned above - 61120440796 rather than 61120440812 mentioned above
Not sure, I know Apple changed some things when they released the iPhone/iPod Touch and as such a lot of docks would not charge the phone (iPod Classic is still OK) but they would still play music. When I got the BMW one from the dealer he said mine was an updated version (but could not specify what had changed) and would charge the current iPod/Phone range.

hmm. i don't have the phone, only got an iPod nano (4th gen i think) not really too bothered about the charging, altho it is a plus. It does say for ipods after 2004, which mine is but who knows! Might give it a go, can always resell. For 20quid its a bargain to the Seat one!
Just got my leads from Seat, it comes with cradle that holds the Ipod in place in the little bin behind the cup holders (2010 Cupra) connected first time, 5th gen 30gb Ipod. Headunit display show track title etc I personally think it is worth the money, but hey thats just me.

All works fine able to select all folders artist- playlist- album etc no issues at all:)

I didn't get that one in the end, a one with the part number that we know works came up on eBay. worked out about a fiver more but still. i dont think there will be much issue really!

mine does that. doesn't do it all the time though, think it just depends how much ID3 info it has to load and that

yes found that out only goes back to the beginning of the one your playing other than that all good :)

Mine (with iphone 4) just selects a random song when you press back, then it seems to loose all the media until you disconnect/reconnect?
With 3GS it just goes back to the start of the song being played

I have the Ipod classic and works fine just goes back to the beginning of the current song everthing else spot on easy to search for tracks albums etc also shows current track in the MFD on the dashboard really pleased with it
Told the dealer when I was in there today what a rip off the Seat one was and he said he'll tell anyone who buys a new car to buy the one from BMW :)

1st post!
Just bought a cable from Ebay, after much searching using the Seat part no. I found this German ebay shop;
adapter-universe, if you input the part no. 000051785B it should come up with the correct cable. Sorry can't post a link, not enough posts yet.
They had a cable with the Ibiza part no. for 25 euros +postage. Made an offer of 20 euros and secured the deal, just noticed they're selling them for 20 euros now! It arrived pretty quick, no idea if it works yet because I haven't had the car but it looks right!

£130 for the cradle and fitting?! are they actually serious!?!?! lol...i got mine for £82 and fitted it in myself which literally took like 5 seconds to put in..all you gotta do is just slot it in thats it..just get it from a Seat dealership or you can go for cheaper version and find something on ebay.

ouch...mine hasnt been in the garage at all and its 4 months old (touch wood)

I can't imagine there's much difference in fitting between the 4th and 5th generation of Nano though! :shrug:
All that is req'd to fit it is either double sided tape or screw provided :-) personally it is a great fitment fits in very easily speak to david see what he can do for you

do you know if it works with the 5th generation nano?

Just been perusing SEATS website and found that for a 5th Generation NANO iPod you will require parts No:
6J0051700C (5th Gen iPod Nano Cradle) RRP £10
6J0051700A (iPod Cradle with Cable) RRP £74
The 2nd number is the generic cradle with the Nano Cradle being an adaptor (similar to the way the 4th gen fits into the cradle). My Stealer had the original cradle in stock but I've got the 5th Gen adaptor coming in tomorrow morning :)

This may be a stupid question and perhaps in the wrong place (please move if so), but I don't have an ipod or iphone. Can I plug a normal USB stick with MP3's into the USB port (i.e. is it a normal USB port) currently I have a JVC unit with USB port and have a few sticks with MP3's on that I like to play. (Don't have the car yet so can't just look/ try it out).

Excellent, sorry I would RTFM if I had one, but I don't even have the car yet... just checking stuff out and it all seems very apple-centric...... ;-)
I can confirm that the BMW cable used in the 1st post of this thread works with the 4th gen (current Jan 2012 version) 32G iPod touch. It did not update the head display of the song following the first track with Genius playlists when I tried it though, worked perfect on normal album play.
It would be interesting to know from any owners of the genuine Seat version see the same.

Hi all apologies if someone has already posted this link but I bought one of these leads off of ebay, item number 200686961621 £13 next day delivery, and can confirm full compatibility with iPod Nano 3g and 4g, iPhone and iPod Touch 5g. I mailed the seller before I bought it asking about compatibility and they said if it wasn't 100% compatible they would give me a full refund, can't say fairer than that can you.

Do you have the combined USB port (CUP) where you have a USB port and Aux port side by side? If so then yes a BMW Mini cable will work like a charm.

The AUX port is under the dash and the USB is just next to it facing left.... if you understand what I mean

Yep BMW cable yourself up and enjoy full iPod control. Has anyone worked out how to put it on shuffle yet? I have a 5g Touch.

Yep full track names on the headunit, plus the ability to browse tracks by album, artist, playlist etc.
Though scrolling takes forever :( I just use playlists because it would take forever to scroll to a particular artist/album in the 3 line display.

I've finally managed to find a breaker who has the USB/AUX control module, wiring and plastic surround.
Has anyone managed to fit one and if so will it be recognised by the HU or will I have to take a ride over to the dealership to have the settings enabled?

I use my nokia luma phone as my music player, for some strnge reason when i tried connecting it up via the phone jack it came out all tinney (you could hear the music but it was like playing it under water). Had a breif work with the dealer, they said they had a simular problem with anther customer and found it was the cabble. Any one got a cable for use with the head phone jacks thats works?

Have you tried connecting your via USB then using the HU to browse? Works well with my HTC One S, file access is quick and sounds is good.
