ABF idle problems

A friend of mine has got problems with his 2.0 16v (my old car).

The idle is jumping between normal RPM and 1200. Throttle body (and all other accessories) are already cleaned, all vacuum lines tested too.

Any ideas?

is the small hose at the back of the throttle body connected up? mine fell off & did as you describe

could also be a dodgy earth connection, has he checked the usual leads/plugs etc, could indicate the coil is on its way too

thanks for the info. vacuum lines are checked, the gurus in the service said something about earth connection, too. maybe he should try an other coil...
