own a 97 GTi cupra sport 2.0 8v (AGG)
recently car has been cutting out randomly and some times doesnt start. now, my key fob wont open the locks so have to use the key in the door.
Had rac out 3 times first it was my leads then second time the dizzy cap and rotor arm. 3rd time he told me it was my coil that was away.
all were fine as i went to a local garage yesterday and he checked them all out and it was fine.
so me and the mechanic went out for a drive and as we were going along he witnessed the same problem (thank god) that i was experiencing it was cutting out then jumping back in to life. its like a power loss for a split second. and you can here a clicking from the fuse box (sounds like a relay clicking on and off which he thinks is maybe the fuel pump relay but checked it and its fine)
so he checked all the fuse box and couldnt see anything there. then went to the engine bay and he checked for a spark. it fired the what he called primary spark then followed by nothing. put the lead back on and it wouldnt start. he then checked for power going to the "hall affect" and there was no power going there. he then fed it with 12v from a power source and i heard the fuel pump initiate and the car started. basically he said the power wasnt going to the distributer as there was no volt readin at the hall affect.
he then came to the conclusion that its my imobiliser causing all these problems as its stopping power to the hall affect.
i tried synchronising the key/re-programming it as the owners manual says but nothing happens until i tried late last night the re-programming worked, the doors locked but the key wouldnt open them again(key bat is fine as red light flashes) then, the alarm went off and stopped once i popped the bonnet.
any1 experienced anything like this at all? any help or advice would be greately appreciated.
am convinced it is the imobiliser as my key doesnt operate the central locking. any1 any idea if this can be fixed or need replacing and how much a could be lookin at as its booked in to a seat dealer mon 9th feb.
thanks in advance, andrew
