A friend of mine is about to buy a Cupra like mine, but the illumination behind the heater controls doesn't work?
I'm sure this has been mentioned in another thread, but does anyone know how you can fix it, and how easy is it to do so? As far as the current owner has let him know, they come on sometimes, so isn't simply a bulb?
Any ideas appreciated!

Prob just the connection to the bulb. Pull off the panel round the dials and unscrew 4 screws to pull out the unit with the knobs on. Then pull out the bulb from the back and wiggle it around. Might be worth bending the contacts so they make better erm contact.

Thanks for the info Steve!;) Hopefully we can sort it out now if he gets it.
With the illumination, are the bulbs all linked to one terminal? The bloke who's selling it reckoned it might be an electrical fault, not just a dodgy connection? Also so we don't break anything, do you just simply lever the front panel off, or is it attached to anything?

Pull the panel off from the bottom - there's nothing to break. You may need a small flathead screw driver to prise it off at the top. When you've undone the screws you need to twist/tilt/wiggle the whole unit through the hole. There is only one bulb and it's in a big white bulb holder that is clipped to the back of the heater controls unit.

Does the illumination for the electric window switches, cigarette lighter etc remain working? I would only have thought it was an electrical fault if the whole lot stopped working at the same time. If there is a loose connection the bulb will probably flash on and off a number of times before it eventually blows.

Thanks again Steve, sounds pretty easy, and like you say would only be an electrical fault if it all wasn't working, which from what the current owners says, it's only the heater controls.
Cheers!;)

Just a quickie - if the stereo comes out easily enough you can reach down to the bulb unit which is a white arch, I have actually knocked this out while doing my stereo which is very easily done as it aint held in by much, I hope it has just fallen out, electrical faults are a complete pain.:(
