View Full Version : Tyre help
I'm getting new front tyres under warranty and currently running Michelen 195 / 45 16 80V wondered if anyone knew of the best tyres to get? Money's not the issue as Mr Seat is paying, getting quoted £105 ish for the Michelens, Goodyear F1 £109 but haven't got a clue whether to go for the same ones or different... some info on best tyres would be gratefully received!! :D

Depend what you want from the tyre. If you want something performance oriented then try the F1, Toyo Proxes T1-S etc. If you want longer lasting then stick with the OE Michelin or Pirelli P(whichever '000).
At those prices I'd pass though, they're almost twice as much as you can buy them for.
Apparently its the 6000 Pirelli, not worried about prices cos I'm not paying!! I cover a lot of miles on my travels to work so perhaps the Michelen is the way forward then? Or is the Pirelli better? Man on the end of the phone at the garage said to go for the Mich but wanted to check with you guys first!!

On my Ibiza I had the OE Michelin Pilot SX GT in the same size last for ~20k miles despite me trying to kill them off. The car had already done 16k too. Had Pirellis on the Punto and they seem pretty hard wearing too, like circa 40k life, now on cheap Avon Cr32 which look like they wil last forever too.
ok, cheers with all the info, think I'll stick with the Mich so all 4 are the same! :D

P6000's aren't great - a bit noisier than some tyres, not especially grippy, not particularly hard wearing either.
Michelin Pilots - the SX GT's I had (as did Ed) seem to last forever. Personally I felt they were a liability in anything other than dry conditions. They are now obsolete, having been replaced by the Pilot Exalto - from what I read, these offer more grip yet are still hard wearing.
Personally I run Eagle F1's on my mk2 8v - good & grippy in most conditions, i've not noticed them wearing particularly quickly though it's been a while since i've been for a play on track. That's not to say they haven't been well used - several road rallies, a couple of autotests & solo's. For the £50+VAT each I pay (all incl.), there's not much more you could ask for IMHO.
Thought I'd give Mr Dealership a ring to find out tyre prices, he's the cheapest so far at £70 a tyre for the Mich, got it booked in next Sat to get them fitted! Spending my whole life over at Mr Dealership at the minute, going in tomorrow to get new drivers seat belt fitted as mine doesn't always lock
and to fix my glove box cos it still pops open during spirited driving when the traction control light is flickering at me saying "I'm trying to grip, but take your foot off the gas and throw me a bone!" :D
