Hi, having now just got my 2nd diesel car, (No.1 VW Passat 110TDi SE with T-Box - No.2 Seat Leon 110TDi SE as STD) I am considering purchasing a VAG-COM but at $299 it seems a bit exspensive for amature tinkering. What is the difference between the Shareware version and the full package, what can and can't the shareware version do?

Any info would be appreciated, Thanks.:)

$299?

You can get the whole lot for £100-110 if you buy a cable from Tim at £43 and then the software at £60 from www.vag-com.co.uk

The shareware software doesn't allow you to do much, it won't allow you to do Auto Scans for fault codes, it'll only let you change modules and run manual fault scans really.

Not sure if this has been looked at before, but 10 or more customers for the software would count as a group buy and be discounted. I'd be interested anyway, but someone would have to organise it I suppose? Has this been done before?

just waiting for my cable to arrive - I'd be interested in saving some money on the software - think I'll do a bit more reading on the benefits of the registered version...

I emailed Vag-Com about a group buy, they sent me this reply....

If it's just software, we can give you 10% off on 10 units.

Basically, a group buy normally lasts no longer than a month. At the end of that month, customers need to identify themselves as being part of your group buy, either via yourself or individually.

They'll need to buy the software from the website at the full price and once we have confirmed with you that 10 units have been acheived - each person will get a refund in the form of a rebate.

If you only hit say 8 customers, they will not benefit from a group buy discount.

If you have any further questions, please let us know!

Worth doing, but we would need 10 definates for this, anyone who drops out would be letting other people down also, so definates only!!

What kind of things can you do with the full version?

Is there someone on the site that is reponsible for group buys? What would need to be done to organise this?

Might be interested, currently using the Shareware version of VAG-COM with my own cable. It doesn't allow you to do a huge amount but to be honest I wouldn't know what to do with it if I did have the full version ;)

The group buy and discounts section is there for everyone to mske use of, so if someone organises it, go for it, you dont need our permission.
