Just read the review of the Ibiza FR on the 4car website. I didn't know they were releasing a FR Tdi as well, is this news to you??

Quote...

"Come to think of it, a quick turbodiesel FR might be an even better bet. Handy, then, that there'll be a 128bhp TDI version soon, badged FR and looking the same as the petrol model. Looks like we'll be getting that six-speed gearbox and improved economy after all."

yeah we had chatted about that somewhere on here before, we came to the conclusion that its a waste of money, your better off going for the 'Sport' model. taking into account costs and trim/features.

Yep agreed. Waste of money, buy a Sport.

The Cupra does still look promising though :)

Over here the sport has been dropped for the FR. So only FR from now onwards.

sigh, another example of Seat cost cutting, the first ever sport models to come out were best imo. The 2nd generation got less dials and speakers, now abroad they have even got rid of the sport for the tight wad FR. sigh

I'm very happy with my 2nd Generation Sport. :)

It depends really...if the TDI FR costs the same as the sport, and is better equipped, then surely its a good thing...(although the door mirrors look fugly).

hmm from looking at Seats site it seems that the TDI FR is simply exactly the same in spec to the sport apart from its not go some of the colour coded outside like mirrors and its got some FR themed stuff on the inside and outside like dials etc. and you pay another £400 or so for the sport.

But the slight clincher is that the Sport is insurance group 7E and the FR is 8E for some odd reason so thus wll cost you more to insure over the time you own it, thus the £400 saving will probably go out the window.

I thought the FR had uprated roll bars, and suspension, or is that only uprated compared with normal ibiza's and not the sport.. ?
the insurance of 7E is what clinched the Sport TDI130 for me, over the fabia vRS.. :)

I remember reading its compared to the sport its uprated. So it may handle better.

As for the insurance group increase. New cars are grouped when they first come out. As the sport has been out a bit now then new ways of braking in come to light so when they tested the FR it was not as secure.
This is not a suprise to me. Infact ive seen it before with the Mk2 ibizas. I would also bet that the FR even with been one group higher is no more to insure than a sport if you get a quote for both brand new. As companys move the cars about and upgrade them to the new levels. So both are probably in the same group even though the ABI have them listed otherwise. Seen this with other cars many times.
