I'm considering swopping my FR Tsi for a Exeo sport 170 [28mpg v 43mpg??], but looking through the comments on here the real life mpg may not be has good as I was hoping for, or should I look for a 143hp. I know these engines like miles on them before they give good results etc. Also any DPF issues with the CR engine compared to the Pd 2.0 lump ??

It all boils down to how you drive. With normal driving you'll be looking at about 45mpg realistically with the 170 diesel or, to put it another way, I'm roughly getting 80 miles from £10. The 140 would be better, mostly because it has a taller final drive (longer gearing).

I have managed to get 60mpg average out of my 170 - if I drive very gently - but that defeats the point of getting this engine and you'll likely encounter more dpf faults this way.

Get the 170 if you do a lot of motorway cruising, like I do, and can afford upwards of £75 for a tank every 650 miles, or so.

Can't comment on dpf issues myself and my car has just covered 8k miles.

Hi, my Exeo ST 143 is not wonderful on fuel, but my journeys are very much local and only clocked 4,400 miles in 10 months, my highest being 45 mpg on a long fast run. Had no DPF issues, but the word is to use good quality diesel, mine has only had Shell. I am quite happy with the 143 performence having had a 2.5 TDi Audi A4 before, but of course 170 owners are really happy, but I think it's down to your type of journeys, to warrant a 170 over a 143, but then there is always chipping at a later date. Nice car though and not like your average Seat...Julian

Many thanks, Loonyjuice and Julianat57. Had the Leon 1p Fr remapped and that was a flyier, but it was a PD engine and I was alway wary of DPF issues etc. I have a chance in part ex for a unreg. Exeo Sport tech with 25% off. ....But I will miss the FR 2.0 Tsi and yes the DGS box too !! .Also real Mpg only becomes apparant with at least 10k on the clock [ pick up sport tech on Wednesday - TODAY. ............................................!!]Its doing about 38-42 @ 70/75mph on a tight engine - well please [ have also added Millers @ 125ml per full tank] that might also assist too. ....................................!!

My 143 SE has just clocked over 10000. MPG is settling down to 42-45mpg on my commute to work, which is 4 miles through the middle of town, 13 miles of country roads.

I went from a Leon FR TFSi to an Exeo 170 (SE Lux) and have not been disappointed. My average mpg over nearly 20k miles is about 40 but bear in mind several thousand of those were towing a racecar on a trailer (does about 33 mpg when towing) and my commute to work is only about 6 miles. For comparison I averaged about 26mpg in the Leon - a >50% improvement.
