Hi All,

I am looking at fitting a boost gauge to my Toledo, playing with the idea at the moment, I have seen one from Nomad racing which i intend to buy, based on the following.

This is where i need some help please.

Will the gauge work with a TDi?

Which hose near the Dump Valve will i need to connect it to?

Lastly has anyone else done this with a TDi?

Dude, there isnt a dump valve on a TDI ;)

anyway, paulo found a nice boost guage for a TDI not so long ago, not sure where it is, sure he can help.

But i still dont know anyone with a boost guage on a TDI, as they run higher boost than a petrol one so the normal boost guage as a bit useless (iirc)

I know its not a tdi but i just fitted a boost gauge to my Porsche. read -15 to +30psi. Pretty easy to fit. Find the hose that goes into the ECU cut it and put a T connector and tap off there. Not sure where the ECU is but if its inside the cabin then you done even have to go through the bulkhead. Its a fairly easy operation.

I've got a boost gauge fitted to my Tdi,I'ts a 30 PSI boost only gauge made by VDO. I drilled the plastic pipe from the intercooler to the manifold for the pressure take off.

Pics would be good - plus any install procedures... Can then be added to the FAQ ....

Hi,
Your best bet is to pick one up off Nomad or similar. I ordered an A-pillar pod with gauge from 42draft design. will have the VDO gauge off that for sale soon. I prefer the bar readings, but the gauge is coming with (with psi reading). Anyway whatever you decide to get, you'll need something that reads 30psi. You might get 30psi peaks on your toledo.

I picked up a couple of adapters for connection (see pic). The adapter plugs into (actually sandwished between) the same place you'll find the boost pressure temp sensor (just to the left of the oil filter on boost pipe).

Hi PRC,

Great, please can you post up a picture of the connection to aid in my installation, i am intending to do this within the next week or so.

Thanks in advance

the one from 42draft design is a fantastic pod, i nearly ordered one. was a good price, shipped from the US. only problem being they didnt make one for RHD cars and at the time had no intentions of doing so......i would be interested in getting a boost gauge as well so any links would be appreciated ;)

I'm looking for some pics at the moment. I don't have the RHD problem, but thought that the pod was symetric so it would fit RHD cars by just flipping it? I'll have to check on my passenger side. Will post back soon.

Well if it does look like it'll work, then I sending one off to ZBOYD to test fit in his LCR. So he'll be able to guarentee fitment.

Still no luck with pics of an install though.:(

Hi Prc,

All i am after ideally is a picture of exactly where in your engine bay the pipe to the boose gauge is connected, the rest i have managed to find pictures of.

Regards and thanks in advance

Great stuff, so all i need to do is connect the gauge pipe to that nipple?

When you mentioned getting adapters is that the one in the picture? Or is that picture you posted a part that is already on the car?

Excuse my ignorance, but i have not done anything like this to a car before, so am a little niave.

Regards and thanks

OK let's see:

In this pic everything is as stock except for the aluminum adapter that gets wedged between the existing adapter and boost tube.

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=242574

The sensor that he's got his finger on if for either boost pressure or intake temp (not exactly sure which one but figure it's temp). The tube your picking off is the return tube (from the IC). All you have to do is unplug the OE sensor, remove 2 screws, add adapter, screw OE sensor back, connect gauge tube to nipple on adapter.

That's it for engine bay installation.

I'd do a TDI "how to" on mine, with some better pics, but I'm still waiting for some parts to come in. If your willing to wait about a week or two I'll get the how-to together.

I ordered some locally, but don't have any available now. I can probably get you one for you, I think they're around 55-60Euros.

Jono,

they where right, it won't fit on RHD cars. The bottom side is contoured to fit up against the A-pillar.:(

I think I'll just get a pod from awesome gti & get some other gauges (anybody managed to get defi gauges working in a seat??), read too much against pillar mounted pods in airbag equipped cars...

Also found this idea

Not too sure about the accuracy, it's a bit different
