Hi, I've just ordered my Exeo SE Tech 143ps and was wondering how I check that it's actually got the 143ps engine in it and not the lower powered 120ps variant. I've done a little research but so far it seems that all the 2.0L engines are based on the same block (EA827 - 2.0 R4 16v TDI CR) regardless of the power output and so I guess are difficult to identify visually.

Hi, should be a sticker under the boot floor with all the spec of your car, amongst the figures should be 88KW for 120BHP, 105KW for 143BHP or 125kw for 170BHP...Julian

It doesnt help when your log book says its a 141PS & you KNOW you bought a 170PS. Expalin that to the PXing garage as I had to & get SEAT to confirm I wasnt fleecing the PX ing garage!! Invoice didnt quote power, but service docs did

Thanks, from Stupra's story above it sounds like I'm not being overly cynical by asking this question. But even if the sticker in the boot says its a 143, I wouldn't feel that necessarily guarantees that's what's up front. Is there a way to check by the engine number stamped on the engine? eg. do the "CAGA" 143 hp engine numbers start with a particular code?

Hi, I think you have to take the sticker in the boot of a new car as gospel, as it is virtually the DNA of that particular car and car production would be a total mess if it was incorrect, information that comes in other forms, ie a service book, can easily be mixed up...Julian

Hi

Can anyone tell me what mechanically is different between the 143 block and 170 block? Is it possible to uprate the 143 without replacing the engine?

Thanks
James

Hi, I doubt there would be anything mechanically different, it's all about software, something you can have done, but beware the warranty, some upgrades leave a footprint and if you have a problem and the dealer can see that there has been modifications, then it could cost you...Julian
