whats the score with stud conversions and clearance?
trial fitted me stud conversion this afternoon, and the rears look like theres gonna be abit of produding thread left over, not really got a bench to shorten them, and they will not clear the hub of the rim,so my question is thus:how much is needed to clear the nut?and how much is legally required for MOT(if any),now they are not james bond stylee and gonna knee cap pedestrians, but is it ok to leave an inch or so?as i said its not enough to protude passed the outside the wheel at all.
cheers in advance for any info bill,or anyone else.
btw top quality kit mate thanks;)

Y'need a bench and vice y' big girl and cut the studs an appropriate length to fit - so long as their is a couple of threads of stud sticking through the threaded section of the nut then it should be fine.

Perhaps you could use y' nailfile ?

Just out of interest, why are you fitting studs? The only benefit they give is if you're changing wheels in a hurry a lot, ie rallying/racing etc.

Both Bill and Autotechniks have said that studs are stronger. Not sure why they would be stronger but I trust them (Bill and AutoT), and it certainly wont make things worse.

Cheers

Fair enough. You'd never exceed the capabilities of wheel nuts on the road though!

Chris easier to change a flat with studs.also my locating scews have long sisnce gone on my brake discs,so with studs this is far easier should you need to change the wheels.;)

rears only with 20mm spaces theres hardly worth lobbing a lil'bit off

doing the fronts an leaving them will be a bit like that scene form grease where they race for 'pinks';)

Hiya Jase..
Sorry I did'nt see this thread earlier..

I sent you 2 different length studs.
Fronts were shorter ones, but I did'nt think they'd be long enough for the rear spacers...
There is'nt an in between stud length tho :( (jump from 60mm to 80mm)

Cutting them down to length can be req'd...
So long as you have some thread protruding outside of the tightened nut, thats fine.

Some wheel hubs are deeper than others also... (my TSW's are really deep) so I send them full length cos you can bet the moment I shorten them, they're too short. Someone somewhere will install them, not have enough thread... and well... We don't want wheels falling off do we.

regards
bill
