Please can someone tell me where to get some 35/40mm lowering springs from, and how much they cost approx.

Thanks

PS I am taking delivery of a 99T Cupra 2.0 GTI Cupra on SAturday, so I am probably the newest owner on here, so hello everyone.

Plus I'm only 20 lol!

try www.venommotorsport.com they cover a few different makes of kits. springs cost from 55 to 110 for springs alone but to be honest you would be better uprating dampers also and seeing that kits can be bought from a shade over 200 its worth it.

Is it really that bad???

I suppose £180 is not too bad though. All I want is a 35/40mm drop.

I had my cupra when i was 20 too .. :) , was paying £2400 for the honour ... , obviously moved on now ... plus im older.

I would suggest saving up for a good spring and damper kit , patience, you will reap the benefits more. Wait till you saved £400 or so quid .

Then you'll have something nice that handles far far better .

£2400 ?! Fcuken hell mate. Best quote I got (with no no claims and 6 speeding points) was £995.

If it was gonna be over two grand I'd have settled for a 1.2 lol

lol..... i was earning enough so it didnt matter. It dropped over £1100 though when i turned 21 and got 1NCB though .

Like i said before though , save your money for a worthwhile investement in some springs and matched shocks , you'll feel the benefits far more.

Do you think it'd be worth it buying some springs (used) for about £30 til i have enough for the shocks too.

Jobless at the moment!

Not really , if you put lowering springs on your standard shocks they will shorten the life of your standard shocks now. You'll only have to pay for someone to fit the springs and alignment aswell , so that'll be about £60 - £100 anyway im guessing. Thats unless you're fitting them yourself.

Patience...

I had some on ordered from des @ banshee motorsport. look in the group buys / discounts section on the board.

Some KW Springs and Shocks. Were highly rated over on briskoda.net , some people on scoobynet ran them on their golf's etc... No problems and came out well in tests aswell.

40mm drop .

Price was £293 !!!!! Mine are probably there now .. but i cant buy them at the mo as im being made redundant .

Don't forget that changing the springs is a "struts off" job - even if you actaully change the springs yourself, you'll need to get the wheels aligned before you stand a chance of everything working the way it should. Typical fitting costs incl. alignment can easily top £100 - money that (IMHO) would be better saved towards doing the job right in the first place with a kit of springs and dampers. As stated above, original dampers are likely to be fairly tired by now and running them with lowering springs will only accelerate their demise...

fair point m8y. Seems that the spring VS shocks battle is unanamous.

Shocks it is then (in the not so distant future)

Thanks for the feedback every1, much appreciated.

hmmm, a better way of saying that is "there are more proven products on the market"

are we talking really really really unreliable, or are we talking just a few cases.

Universally though, are they considered a bad buy?

m0rk
20-02-2004, 16:41
the latter.....

buy 'stuff' from whoever - so they'll unlikely be matched dampers. nor good quality.

probably from the same source as G-Max & Raceland

As far as suspension goes, go for the best you can afford. And try to blag a ride (or pref. drive) a car with the kit you're interested in. Before I had the Koni's fitted on mine, many folks recommended the Bilstein kit - I tried a couple of cars with it fitted and decided that i'd rather keep my fillings where they are. Admittedly, I took a chance as at the time I knew of no-one who had fitted the Koni SSK kit on an Ibiza. That said, Koni are a reputable brand... £400 fitted, admittedly a couple of years ago now. If i'd have "saved" a few quid by fitting lesser kit, I would most likely have replaced it by now, so it's not much of a saving is it?

I don't know if this is of any use to you but I have been looking to get a set of Coilovers for my Mk2, fully height/damping adjustable made by GAZ, 3 years warranty and fully rebuildable, the price is only £512, a bit higher than you were talking about but compare this price to bilstein/koni for the equivalent and its cheap, this make is recommended highly from friends with mini's

i have seen these in rally designs catalogue, they seem quite good bits of kit.they list ibiza/cordoba front and rear shockers with adjustable damping.

Yeah, they are their A/S shocks, full coilovers, with 2.25 inch race coils I think, They retail at £598 but managed to get a good price. For £100-150 more than the fixed height koni/Bilstein they are good value for money and iliminates all the fuss with will the kit be to low or to hard. Got a few mates who use them on rally cars and they have taken a good beating.

have to wait and see what they are like once on the car.

Motorworld do 35mm springs for the 16v gti/cupra £50. As for self fitting make sure you have some spring compressors, if you havn't done any or seen some done before, get someone to give you a hand as it can be a hazardous job.
