noise from the rear

Need some help here guys!

For the last 1000 miles i have been hearing a whirring noise at the back of the car when im doin 40mph.

Ive already changed both rear wheel bearings and put new brake shoes in the drums. its not cured it though.

Any ideas, i dont like funny noises they make me uneasy about thrashing my car round bends incase the rear axle falls off!

On my mk2 when I replaced the rear wheel bearings I also noticed the rear tyres were out of shape on the inner edges (sounded slightly like wheel bearings) ???
