And does it help the throw? Does it make it more positive?

awesomeade
18-03-2004, 11:18
yes, shortens it by around 50%

LEO LION R
18-03-2004, 11:51
from your link " The Neuspeed short shift kit for the Audi TT Quattro & Golf R32 easily installs on the selector shaft of the transmission located right below your factory airbox and battery. No need to touch any of the parts in your center console! The billet steel shift kit reduces the throw from gear to gear by approximately 35% "

are there two kinds then, a Billet one ( 35%) & a Nuespeed one (50%) ?

I'm confused

Icecavern

Any technical difference between this one and the Diesel Geek one? The Neuspeed one looks weighted.

Anyone else want one, its a great price and will sort out the long range of the 6 speed box.

Right guys and gals, the deal is give awesomeade a call on 0161 776 2222 (between 9am-4pm) and place your order, remember to mention your SCN name and he can tick you off the list. He can take your payment over the phone (easiest) or online and ignore the price online as he will correct it if you identify yourself from on here.

If you have any queries about this deal, either PM me or PM/call awesomeade.

Excellent, thanks. Was a bit worried it was another 'dealer only' item special tool to remove it.

Will the rod attached to it / gearstick be under any sort of tension, ie. will there be any pressure on the part being removed that has to be held onto while swapping parts over ?

Thanks in advance.

Snazzin frazzin razzin fecker, i got the clips off no probs, didn't even remove the airbox or anything else, the problem came when i had the clips off and nut off, but the damn cam wouldn't lift of because of the centre splin slot.

So the old one stays on tonight, untill i take some brave pills to get the hammer in use.

So tomorrow it is then, going to go and watch celtic get tanned by barcelona 3-1

I am pretty sure the ratios are slightly different, but it should make no difference to the fitting of it, yes imho it should be like this to start with. Nice and short / tight between all gears, and in fact because the throw is so much shorter the side movement is shorter too.

win win situation.

Apart from the removal of existing which i wasn't brave enough to hit the first time it is a doddle, the end clips are a little tricky in case you drop them into the engine compartment.

Allow for 10 minutes to do it properly, ie clean out old grease with metal particles in the slide mechanism to the right in that pic, and re grrease.

Good luck and enjoy.

The TT one won't fit, it's different.

Pete

I wouldn't be so hasty, comparing the befor eand after pics with that TT one, it looks like it might do the job, albeit the weighted end is on the opposite side, but there is nothing in the engine bay there to block its movement, so it really just comes down to the angles and lengths - which look very very similar. Youd really need confirmation from them that it fits or at least try it and return it.

Damn could have maybe saved £120, then again even if it fits it might not feel right or be badly balanced ?

LEO LION R
30-03-2004, 08:02
In fact having looked at the site again, there is every possibility that it fits no probs - it just doesnt shorten the throw by as much. Only 20% as opposed to 35% from the Neuspeed one.

Still not bad for the money though, depends how much shorter you want it.

Well in response to earlier post about modding the original.................
I removed the original and the only issue about the modification would be the removal of the original 'cable post'. It looks like some form of compressed fitting.
There is ample space on the original casting to move the post in and probably further than the Neuspeed item but then the change would be unusably short.
I am taking my motor over to my Uncles engineering firm tomorrow to get his views(He specialises with Rolls Royce turbines Hmmm BIG TURBO on a trailer and flexy turbo pipes :D :D )
My early opinion would be to engineer a new post and drill tap the oem casting.
I suspect he would knock me out as many as I wanted free gratis for those on here wanting /capable of drill/tapping.
I also had a close look at the (side to side)bracket which is made out of pressed steel. There isn't the space on the part to move the post closer to the box and therefore reduce side to side movement unless a short piece of plate is rivetted/welded on and the post mounted on this. There is plenty of room to do it.
I shall report back closer to the weekend

Look what marriage and children have reduced me to doing

LEO LION R
30-03-2004, 20:15

if its closer then technically there will actually be less stress on the bar but more on the change itself

be a good challenge :p eh scott ? :p

wouldnt mind a pic or 2 if you get some - see how it works out

Technically there will be the same stress on the bar because its still the same length, the distance to the centre pivot has shortened and therefore the same force being applied will result in more stress on the new joint as its having to deal with the same force over a mush shorter movement.

How did Awesome ship this to people? Was it by APC?

Got a card from APC Overnight but they're not answering the phone to arrange a pickup... Looks like bracknell which is a fair trek :(

Think it was, not 100% sure though. Got mine sent to the work address, cos i knew i'd be out.

Fitting is a doddle, don't even have to remove the airbox or battery as it suggests.

Well once the couriers answered the phone so I could go get it, very happy now... Took me a bit longer than you guys cause I'm not mechanical and I couldn't get the standard one off

It's got to be a 50% reduction. It also seems to reduce forward throw more than backwards but I think that's just cause I'm not used to it yet.

Very nice though :D

Yeah i had problems the first time i tried to remove the existing one, just got to do what is said above.

I'm also still getting used to it, although it does feel more natural now just over a week on, and getting better ever trip.

Slotting 4th gear back is the shortest i think, so maybe it's ever so slightly different from one car to the other, as you think forwards is shorter ?

The Neuspeed shortshift does indeed fit the Cupra as well as the R, what a difference - feels very short and sporty!

Yeah i'm happy too, although could be happier - no v-tune to play with yesterday :( , maybe next trip in a few weeks.

Mine has 205bhp @ wheels as well (256bhp) and 276lbft @ 4300rpm (over 255lbft from 3000-5500rpm). Peaking at 1.25bar on the rollers and 1.385bar on the road, which surprised me at just how much more it was on the road.

ECU Explorer what a wonderful tool and getting even more advanced soon too.

02j change IIRC, which can also be used on 02a, you'll have to check B&M or Neuspeed catalogues to see if they do one for those.

Edit: this is listed for 99+ Cupra BM-E45114

Yes,indeed. But are you sure that one fits to a ibiza because that one is for a golf IV. I've already compared the original partnumbers of the one in a golf IV 1.8T and the one in the ibiza 1.8T and they are both different

Thx

Answered like a true politician leo :bleh: ;) lol

yeah was reading up on these on the audi boys site while 1 am this morning, general consensus is that they work really well, with a slight increase in vibriation through the wheel + bulkhead, this settles after one/two days of pasty, then just a tad @ idle etc, good mod for the money,as they say gear changes improve also, and a few also have the shortshift and say the combination is a revelation

it is a revelation

50% shorter roughly and the sportier in car rumble from the DBM bushes is great, however i would disagree that they settle after a few days, mine is just the same. Maybe the ones that settle need tightening upo again - especially if they fitted it themselves without the use of a vice to press the parts in properly ?
