View Full Version : ariels
i want to take the ariel out of the front wing of my ibiza,is there one i can use that fits inside the car?but not one of them ones that stick to the dash that look like a set of handle bars.
is there a wire one that goes around the edge of the windscreen?also which is the easiest way to get the wing mounted one out?through the arch loiner i presume.
Any reply at all would be appreciated on this please:cheers:
there is a blank that is used on the earlier cordoba's that will cover the hole and as for moving it , how about putting a bee-sting aerial in the roof ?? as per all the newer models ??
either that or its a weld/fill or new wing to completely remove the hole , and remove the arch liner to get the old one out yeah

Yup, even the fill in (and it was used on beezers too) was not flush with the wing...although it did look ok.
If your going to drill a ole' in the roof get a pug type aerial instead of a bee-sting....the senstivity is much better. Stick in toward the front of the car roof too.
Use the masking tape trick though....layer or two of masking tape on top of car. Remove headlining or section of. Drill up. Masking tape catches all the shite. Put aerial on with a bit of silicon sealer (the good stuff....not cheapon bog sealant) do up nut on bottom of aerial mounting and Roberts not your auntie!!!
Hope this helps.

All the Golf Mk2 16Vs had a little plug in the wing due to the roof ariel. Mine looked OK never had any problems.
the idea i have is to smooth the wing off and not put a bee sting on, hence an internal areial ,don't some fords hvae em in the front windows? scrap heap challenge time i think
Tried to remove the ariel on my cordy today so I could replace it with a smaller one, trouble is that I could unscrew it but not remove it. (Comes very loose but wont come away from the base)
Anyone got any ideas how to remove it?

mart, thats a security feature and also so i t can be brought down for carwashes, it is possible to get it off but requires a bit of brute force!!! and possible damage to the base which may or may not affect the replacing of the new one.
Does it say how in the haynes manual mate as I dont wanna wreck it?
Wonder if the ariel base on the 20vt is the same as Dave A's replaced his ariel without any probs and im sure others have too.

mart , got ya text , sorry waiting for credit delivery LOL , you can ? pull your antenna out buy sort of pushing in then tugging out :/ bit didgy though
as for ford aerials , they usually use a box @ the rear that joins the heated rear window , try esc4 and sierra sapphire etc

Be careful unscrewing it: my Ibiza is on it's 2nd through it not screwing back properly. I'm going to replace with the standard VW one without the anti-theft mast.
thanks everyone ,had yet another idea to keep car out of spray bay.replace current areial with one off a mk3 golf cabrio its in th same place as mine but looks ten times better its a sort of bee sting type affair that unscrews for car washing/anti theft and the base looks the sam size, any chance of a part number flapper as vw will probably tell me to piss off:cheers:

I used to have one like that on my XR2 many years back (1987). It was a Bosch Autoflex, narrow wing mounting about 300mm long, same as a 'beesting' design wise. Got it from local car hifi place, may still be able to get them, brilliant reception.
