Well I was talking to a friend and he said he knew someone who had an Ibiza MK4 and had an engine replacement and he fitted a 2.0 GTI engine that was pushing out 300 bhp. Is this even possible for a hot hatch as I think it sounds like bs?

2.0L gti as in the golf 2.0l gti engine?
If so it's very unlikely unless he's spent alot of money on the engine, it'll definately need a forced induction to get it there and alot of head work given how bad the standard 2.0 head is - definately not suitable for a turbo. It'll need a completely engine rebuild and every bolt on at a minimum.
It would definately have been cheaper, easier and quicker to drop in a BAM225 and stick on every bolt on and map it up, not 300 but not bad power still. For that reason I don't know why he would choose the 2.0L and have to say it's unlikely that he's telling the truth...
