View Full Version : Is 400 file limit on SD card true or a myth?

I've read conflicting posts on here and on the Audi forums about the file limit for the SD card based sat nav / media system (RNS-E?). It looks like this system originally had a limit of 400 files per card when it first appeared in the A4 but some posts say that this limit has since been removed in more recent models. Hopefully someone here has tried to put more than 400 files on an SD card and either got the system to read them all or only read the first 400 and can put this one to rest.
Cheers.
got one ?
transfer some files over and test it ?
RNS-E 10 seems to have a different file system and therefore allow more (folders) numbers of tracks. I here its 4096.

Going from the : http://clubseatexeo.com web site it would appear that 32gb is the total capacity of our units, have not translated any further yet !

I don't think it's an issue with the card capacity as such but rather with the system's ability to catalogue more than 400 files. Just while I'm sitting here waiting for my car to arrive (going to take a little longer now - delays at the factory!) I've been converting my music over to MP3 in preparation and don't want to buy 32BG SDHC cards if I can only load them with 400 files, in which case cheaper 8 GB cards would be more than large enough.

I got 2x 16Gb sd cards for £14 each on Amazon.
I heard you can copy the SATNAV dvd's to an SD card (to free up the dvd/cd slot) Does anyone know if this is true?
I've just checked the iTunes playlist that I sync my SD cards to... 998 items exactly, no problems whatsoever :)
I use 16GB SD cards from Play.com (own branded).

Now that I've got my Exeo I've tried it with a 32 GB SD card (Adata from Maplin - cost around £50 I think) and so far it's got 1,384 files on and all OK. So I guess the 400 file limit stated in the manual is no longer the case.
