I ahve seen in a number of posts reference to supposed 'brains' in this car, now this sounds like b******s to me but I amy be wrong.

1. Hitting the barke kills the throttle, coblers at least it does not on my car

2. The car 'learns' and will not allow full power during first 1000 miles, this too is c**p

Anyone got anymore, I'm thinking of compiling a book

Hi, If you dont believe me about the throttle, pop over and i will demo it to you, i am only in bracknell !!, not far away,

As for the learning thing over the first thousand miles you are probably refering to the Lambda sensor which does learn over the first thousand miles, but if i remember rightly it monitors the quality of fuel you put in and reduces power if you use naff quality fuel by the end of your thousand miles and actually starts with full power from new !!

the lambda is only an O2 sensor, so it can only measure the a/f ratio. Octane or "quality" of fuel is more likely to affect the knock sensors and subsequent ignition and boost retard in the event than the changes in the fueling control from running closed loop mixture from the lambda. I know the ECu will not allow full boost to be delivered until it has reached operating temperatures (oil, water, lambda).
As for 1000 miles and the engine not allowing full power - Well Ermm. I can't see this being real if I'm honest - But I would be gladly proved wrong by some documented Seat/VW info. If there was any odometer input it would surely be in km's not Miles anyway. - handbook said 1000km for running in at less then 75% max engine rpm and speed.

my brake kills throttle, was also a little dubious at first, but its true. As for full power below first 1000 miles, its technically possible, quite simply actually, would be done in the prom code, but i don't know if it *is* actually done. As for a learning ECU, well, I doubt it, because what exactly would the ECU need to learn ? And what about rent cars ?

Very interesting, will try out the throttle/brake tomorrow on way to work.

I recall the impreza ECU adjusting its program based on the quality of fuel fed to it during first 500-1000 miles after as reset (or from new) this sounds like the same kind of thing and is (I understand) fairly std on turbo cars and is there to deal with the wide variation in fuel quality round the world.

What it suggests is that we need to find a way to reset the ECU and then benchmark std UL against super UL - it made a noticable difference in my impreza but not that great (some friends claimed that increase power, and hence fule saving cos not using all power offset SUL cost over UL)
