Messed about with the rear badges on my Leon. Check this thread out:http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28858

It's not difficult at all, takes a few minutes to do and a whif of polish after the badges are off brings it up a treat. Good luck. :D

Heres a tip for removing the badges, if they are stuck on with kind of rubbery stuff like the stuff used to stick mirrors to walls then I have heard dental floss is a good way of removing them. Ive not tried it, last time I took some badges off my car was about 3 cars ago and I scratched it all over the boot by stupidly using a screwdriver! doh!

so the basic steps for simply debadging, not moving them are..

1. use a powerful hairdryer or heat gun thing until it warms the metal
2. use a blunt instrument, like a credit card to get under the badge
3. once the badges have been removed, use meths to remove the left over glue
4. then polish the car until colour under badge matched the rest, or vice versa

if i've missed any steps, please tell me, because i want to get this clear before i attempt to do this myself

i opted for the dental flos method

then used meths to get the glue of and a towel

then cleaned and polsihed the are up jobs a good un!

Don't know if I'm too late in this reply, but you've covered all the points there. Thin plastic ie. credit card is MUCH easier than farting about with dental floss. If the metal is warmed well and the adhesive softened, you'll find the badges will pull off quite easily...:D

cheers sooty torques.. weather was way too bad to do it yesterday, but its cleared upalot today, so hopefully i'll get it done

after i take the badges off, is it pssible to reuse them?? like most the 'i b i z a' to another place.
do i have to store the badges in a dust free place?

Yep, you can re-use them - but you'll need to get some new adhesive first. After you've taken them off, clean the badges really well first with white spirit/turps and then with either petrol or meths to make sure they're free of grease. Keep them somewhere clean and dust free til you're ready to fit them, such as in an envelope or freezer bag. You'll need to get some double-sided self-adhesive foam pads (like Sellotape's 'Sitcky-fixers') but make sure they are the permanent ones suitable for outdoor use and exposure to sunlight - they are grey in colour. You should be able to get these from any DIY store. The ordinary white ones are no good for this job.

Stick one side of the pad onto the back of the badge and then with a very sharp blade (scalpel blade is ideal, otherwise a new 'Stanley' knife blade) trim around the outside edge of the badge, cutting straight through the backing paper. Tip: if you find the knife blade 'grabbing' at the adhesive pad while you're cutting around the badge, sprinkle some talcum powder or flour onto the exposed unwanted adhesive, blow away any excess.

When you've trimmed them all, make yourself a mask to get the positioning and level spot on, 'cos once they 'bite' you ain't gonna shift them. Prepare the surface you're gonna mount them on, peel away the backing paper and job's done.

debadged today, very easy, u dont even need to use meths or anything to get rid of the excess!

a handy tip, which will cause a blister (well in my case anyway) is to rub your finger fast over the excess leftovers. your finger will cause heat and friction and yada yada, it'll come off very easily! :)

gave my car a quick clean, and it looks amazing! i really like it. but i like the idea of it saying ' i b i z a ' on the back, in the middle.

if anyone already has a template for the ibiza badge, then please give me measurements!

thanks sooty torques for the great advice, i'll get all the stuff soon, and post a pic once its all finished

FAO CUS just reading your interior mods on you car mate. Thats some serious stuff you've done, sounds good. Ive not seen anyone on here have an ignition starter button fitted, how easy was that and what sort of cost?

Jammy
29-02-2004, 22:23
Ignition starter is dead easy. You can buy the bits out of maplin and do it yourself for less than 20quid.

Might do one at some point, but i'll just stick with the door builds for the now on the inside.

well i never fitted the started button, i'm too inexperienced to do things like that. when my mate fitted the NOS, when he put the switch in, he also put the starter button in. its really good, because its hidden away, so if people do try start my car, they cant :)

somethings in my list aren't fitted yet. well just the electronics.
the subs are getting put into the back arches, like in the picture below. 1 x 12inch JL sub in each side. the amp is fitted on the metal on the backseats. gonna get it carpeted around once the subs are in. the TV and playstation 2 are getting fitted on the 12th. it will be finished very shortly. i dont want to take pics of my car half finished. once its all done i will show you. :) theres no reason for me to lie about the stuff i have, if i lied, i'd say i had the cupra sport, not a crappy 1.4 :P, so everything in the list i have.

Hi Cus

well the hardest bit for me is making the boxes for the subs :( i have not much experience, but i really want to get on with getting my car completed. shall hopefully be done by the end of this month.

commiemidget.. the best thing to do, is try and make your car different. even with small things like the starter button. i wanted mine to be completely different! so i bought NOS. oh btw, what does the K&N induction kit sound like?

commiemidget
01-03-2004, 20:50
Hi Cus

The K&N Induction kit is the 1 for a 1.4 VeeDub Polo MPI, but cause the Ibiza has the same engine it fits, it sounds really good as when you change up and down the gears and speed up there is a really nice growl sound, its pretty loud as people sometimes turn and look when i go pass them.

i have a few more mods planed like a front splitter,a Abbes spolier, some rear wheel spacers, new Sebring Exhaust and Abbes back bumper.

Plus got some more graphics from Linz today including the Seatcupra.net ones, these will go with the other graphics that are along the bottom of the car.

I know i got under car neon to make the car stand out, some people say its tacky but i like it.

i definately want some neons, in blue, cos i've gone for a blue and silver/aluminium theme.

i will be putting them on last though. because i do think cars that aren't lowered and have nice big alloys look silly with neons. some can get away with it though.

i have some stickers for the outside, but i dont know if i should put them down the doors, or along the bottom.

hi

I know have seen a few cars with under car neon and it looks poor as you can see all the tubes, ie i followed a Saxo the other
day with green neon kit and it looked all wrong.

mine is ok as the Ibiza has a bit of a lip underneath so hides the tubes.

i have four silver graphics on the bottom of the car and go along the bottom of the door, looks pretty good. The graphics i have are below

'K&N'
'Fusion'
'Alpine'
'Pioneer'

Plus have some 'seatcupra.net' graphics to go on when i get time.

cheers

Neons now I hate to sound like a "maxer" but I like the sound of them. Anyone fitted them to a mk3 Ibiza before?

commiemidget
02-03-2004, 13:48
Hi There

Yes i have a 'Fusion' Undercar neon kit on my mk3 ibiza, pretty easy to fit, mind you got a professional to fit them back in the summer. Look really sweet at nite as my car is black and i have green neons on the car.

i dont mind neons, i dont like basic cars with them, because they could putthe money towards better things. also cars that have only one or two lights, instead of the full four. get a car, doesn't matter if its a nova (well maybe) get it done up so that it looks really nice, slam it, THEN get neons! but dont get neons if you like to race your car, as you may break them.

commiemidget
03-03-2004, 11:32
I agree thats why i changed all alloys on my car and have a full neon kit as it looks silly otherwise.

Cus, how much and where did you get you NOS kit from and done? is it worth doing?

http://affilate.potn.com/product_info.php/cPath/618_659_3173/products_id/1605000

thats the website i ordered it from. £649.. its expensive but your getting the best stuff. they say to use only 25hp jets on a 1.4, but i've been told by a specialist that i can use 50hp jets as my engine has done 20,000 miles, and some other stuff but i've forgotten.

this is wet NOS aswell, which means it uses a second line of petrol going into the engine , but this is only active when the NOS is. makes it better and adds more horsepower.

for fitting, i was quoted £300, this includes all other parts, like new spark plugs, cos standard ones will melt the pistons or something. i'm lucky because a mate of a mate (you know how it is) is an expert, and charged my £200 for fitting, asked me if i wanted to help him etc, so i could know the basics. hes also gonna fit my subs and amp hopefully.
£300 is the usual price your looking to pay, so nearly £1000 for it all :( rather expensive, but its amazing! the NOSusually only works in 5th gear with wide throttle, but the guy who fitted it to mine knows some trade tricks and has got it working in 4th gear aswell. it does make my car loads faster , but never redline it, because it'll funk your car up! hope this helps :)

03-03-2004, 13:55
How long does the NOS last and where do you buy refills and how much?

cus
03-03-2004, 15:02
your only supposed to use the NOS is short bursts, and i've only used it a couple of times on long straights. i dont know how much refills cost, or how long the bottle lasts, because i haven't finished it yet. i think its £5 = 1LB. so its pretty expensive

edz
03-03-2004, 15:58
Yeouch, nasty costs for the NOS, hope you're lucky with your engine too :jog: ... Surely a higher performance car would be a better option for you?! You can't beat a turbo and you can use that in every gear, including reverse :D

cus
03-03-2004, 16:16
i cant get a turbo for my car, £2300... but i'm gonn wait for that. adds 50hp
