I am having trouble deciding what to do,

I am currently driving an Ibiza SC 1.6 petrol and want to change to either a Diesel FR or a cupra (non boc trim) would probably re-map the diesel if i went for that but would like to know what you guys think would be the best option.

I drive around 10000 miles a year, normally relatively economically and mostly on motorways. Im interested in getting fairly good MPGs with the possibilty of eating up the road at good speed when I want to. Test drove an FR and loved it even at standard spec and even hooning it about it averaged 40mpg so high 50s should be possible. I have also seen some people on here claiming 40+ from a cupra, is this driving normally or like a complete grandad, because if grandad is the case I dont see much point in buying a hot hatch

any information or experiences would be Great.

p.s what do you think should be the highest price I should pay for either (only 100 pounds difference in the spec I want.) and sorry for the long first post

your always going to get more MPG from the diesel, exspecially on motorway drives... Depends if your mainly wanting MPG (go for diesel) or a car thats not too bad on fuel, but is good fun (cupra)

if you want something fuel efficient and you do that many miles id recommend getting the diesel. i get average of 46 mpg on my 2tdi fr. if your looking to buy the 2tdi FR you could haggle it down to 15-15000k. depends if you get mods and if the dealer mans in a good mood :)

seems the way forward is the FR TDI, and to be honest i can see the benefits. I did love the test drive and with a re-map i can see myself driving around with a huge smile on my face!! :D

the guys who are saying get it down to 15500, how the hell do I do this, ive tried to haggle and they just dont want to budge at all!! or throw anything in... im only 20 so maybe my age is getting in the way and they arent taking me seriously, any haggling tips you can give me??

much appreciated

I had just turned 20 when i bought my car too, it shouldnt make a difference...i paid for it all by cash though so they offered me a lower price for paying it all in cash... Then i got it down to 15 and i had extras too... I was there for a good 3 hours and my dad was there and hes a really stern business man so he was putting real pressure on the dealer...like saying nah were not gonna buy it if its 16k :p... But luckily we had a reaaaly nice salesman and it turned out we go quite back with him and lived round the corner etc from him so it helped making friends with him.

Its kind of true that they done take us that serious in the sales department if were young so it could help taking someone older with you to haggle like i did

They usually hate cash sales, as they cant give the finance company any buisness and many other reasons, ive never met a dealer who was happy with a cash sale.

Well i asked my dealer what discount he could give me if i paid it all in cash and he took nearly a grand off my payment... Happened with another two garages that i got quotes from but they were less generous.

Might not work for you mate but it does with me
