View Full Version : The Downpipes are in!!!! ?
I'm back in the UK now (Been in the US on business), and so I decided to give Jabba my regular call to find out if any progress has been made on the downpipes.
Elton was busy but the lady (Sorry don't know her name) said that Elton said the downpipes are in, and they are testing one on a car before making the calls! :D
I then asked if I should be getting a call within a couple of days and she said she didn't know as they have had a few problems!?!?! Hmmm, I'm not too sure but I wonder if when she said they were in maybe what she really meant was that the original batch of incorrect ones were in and needed to be sent back.... in which case I already knew that a few weeks ago!
Can someone else do me a favour and give them a call and see whether they really are in. I think they are getting annoyed with my calls. :(
Cheers
Ben
Jesus... my wife is away for four weeks and jabba get the downpipes in.. this is not going to be good for my marriage or my licence!
:D
I was getting my ecu mapped 4 the new Ko3 sport on friday, i took the ihi ibiza 4 a spin and its ****ing amazing:D
But Mike showed my the down pipe so trust me there is one there!
it was in a box with loads of other exhaust parts
Well fingers crossed that it passes their 'inspection'. :)
Ben

The DP in question here is for the IHI turbo, not a K0x one.
Not going to be much use to you unless you get the IHI kit to go with it.
ShockXE and Addo got their DP made in 3" which looks to have worked very well. Contact them.

Last time I done the sums it added up to between £5000 and £6000, but that was with all the options etc I think.
Ben
I just phoned Jabba to ask about something else, but naturally I asked about this too.
They have TWO prototype downpipes in... these are NOT the production ones. They will take a couple of weeks testing them, and only then will they give the go ahead for the real production run (Presuming the tests don't show any problems). Its not until this point that they will start calling people. :(
Not as good news as I had hoped. :(
Ben
WTF
he said they were all tested and that they will be callin me late on this week to give me a final price and get me booked in??
he said they tested them on another car and looked fine????
was that just to get my hopes up:(
why not just tell me they were not ready, gettin a bit miffed to say the least with all the conflicting info goin round ( no-ones fault here just people gettin told diff info by jabba - they should just post up - IHI ready in ?? weeks - call us then)
as long as its done before my birthday (April 28th) i will be happy - thats only 10 odd months late
oh well should realy be concentrating on my final exams - put as much effort into them as i do the Beeza should get a 1st no probs - fat chance though
Well I hope you are right and i got it wrong somehow. I'd love a call abut it later this week.
Let me know if/when you get your call.
Cheers
Ben
called them tody to see if they had done a price guide - not yet was the answer.
oh well back to the waitin game- so whats new.

Not trying to be picky, but if the only thing they have been waiting on was the downpipes then why couldn't they of already priced up the rest of the stuff?
We're now starting to get into what I consider to be the trackday season, and that was when I said I 'had' to have it by. Wont be happy if I get it just in time for winter!!!!
Ben
This thread is a few days old now .. any more news ??
Ben .. i have sold my ibiza and moved on ..new login too (previously c/c :)
i am still in the Queue for an ihi though :bleh: only its goin on a leon ... not an ibiza. :)
Aren't the kits available for the Leon already?

Indeed - my understanding was that it was purely the downpipe that was the sticking point on the Ibiza - and this was an Ibiza specific problem due to under bonnet space constraints. I understrand the Leon IHI conversion would use the mk4 Golf downpipe - and i've not heard of any supply problems with this. If you wanted this confirmed, you'd have to speak to Jabba, but I believe this is the situation...
isn't the leon one the same as mk4 golf bits?IE widely available
Aren't the kits available for the Leon already?
i phoned em a couple of weeks back .. they said no.. waiting for the downpipes or summat!!!! ..Broken record innit ?? :blahblah:

When I spoke to Jabba they said that they wanted to do the Ibizas before any other car, and so no the Leon/Golf etc kits are not yet available. Then Bill said that the Golf kits etc ARE available and quite a few have been sold already.
Confused!
Did you ask what the problem is with the Leon downpipes? I didn't think they needed a special downpipe like the Ibiza does.

I said the MKIV kits were being sold Ben, not that Jabba were fitting them....
AmD bought a couple MKIV kits for example.

I didn't say you did say they were fitting them. ;) :bleh:
Just said that the kits were being sold.
Interesting the other rival tuners are buying kits from Jabba. I can't see how Jabba can benefit from that. Equally I can see that Jabba can't prevent it either.

Suppose they benefit as they are the ones with the ££££ in their pocket!!!!!!! And their name on the kit as every one will know

True in the short term, but the tuners will be looking at the kit and they will be thinking one of two things (Or both):
1) How can we do the same kit but cheaper?
2) How can we get a little more power out of it?
Either way the net result would eventually be that Jabba are more expensive, and/or Jabbas kit is less powerful... neither good in the long term.
I want mine now! :(

LOL :bleh:
Supply only is nice and easy tho....
Time is Jabba's problem, so supply kits to other tuners to fit and map themselves works out well.... don't you think?

I think you're talking b0ll0cks Ben....
Cheaper? Invest mucho time and ££ in developing something....

Thats sort of my point. The Jabba price includes covering the cost of R&D, whereas if another company came along and copied their design then their R&D costs would be much lower.
I'm not saying this is the case, its just that it seems unusual for two different rival tuners to work together like this. Its a good thing though.
(BTW, I assumed that the kits Amd bough were for themselves, I didn't realise they were for fitting to customer cars).
Ben
Somehow I doubt that Jabba will sell anything to anyone at 'cost' - so it's easy money
Buy in, ship out, charge XXX Tuner +XX% - they then bum that onto their customer with some more %age stuck on.
Customer gets wise & goes direct to source next time
I wouldn't say that jabba will be doing themselves harm, just whoever is the end customer will be paying more!

Indeed if thats what they're doing.
As mentioned above, I didn't know that Amd were selling the kits onto customers, I thought they had just bought them for themselves.

Sorry if I came across a bit blunt Ben.. ;)
It would still cost another company to get patterns made, decide on the right material to cast from ;) etc.... but yes someone could do this. Nothing to stop anyone from doing this to anyones product...
Remembering of course hardware is only 1/2 the job.
I can't comment on the applications being used by AmD (not fair for me to comment here, although I do know.) ;)

Not much different from anything else I suppose.... comparisons can be made from supplier to supplier... Down to preference as well as cost.

No problem.
I'm not making any claims or accusations, I was just making a passing comment about how it seemed slightly strange for a company to sell products to their rivals.
How come you always get to know whats going on before the rest of the world does? ;)

This has been going on for years among various VW tuning firms. It's why it's not always a good idea to slate the work done by X when talking to Y. Most of them talk to each other and customers who are a PITA tend to find their cars "need more work" or can't be fitted in at short notice or for extended periods. ;)
In some ways i hope they never ring me and say it's ready - cos then i'll say yes do it and spend a shedload of cash on creating a rocket ship..
Hang on.. sounds pretty good to me...
