View Full Version : 160bhp 1.9TDi Cupra
So its official, the new Deisel Cupra will be a 160bhp 1.9TDi.
My question is, is this the same 1.9TDi as used in 130bhp and 150bhp VAG cars just with a minor remap upto 160bhp, or is it a new engine?
ie. Is the tuning potential of the 160bhp 1.9 any greater than that of the 150bhp 1.9?
Also, I notice that the 0-60 time of the 160bhp TDi Cupra is 7.6 seconds, compared to 8.4 seconds for the 150bhp 1.9TDi FR version. If both are basically the same engine then I'd be very surprised if 10bhp could make that much difference. Maybe its down to the gearing?
Cheers

as far as i know its a tweak on the old 1.9l PD unit, so just a 150 lump tweaked for 10 more HP. So tuning potential is likely to be minor above a 150.
Note the FR uses the 130bhp engine, and has replaces the 'Sport' model, which is a shame.

The Generva Motor Show article says that there will be both 130bhp and 150bhp versions of the 1.9T Deisel FR. It even lists the performance and economy specs for each version.

ahhh you mean the 150bhp petrol 20valve turbo :-
150 hp 1.8 20VT 130 hp 1.9 TDI
I heard or read somewhere that Seat will be fitting the new 2L TDI engine thats now in the Golf they reckon that it will be about 170bhp
sure it was diesel car or auto express I read it in.

Remembering that PD130's actually turn 140-145bhp and Pd150's typically run 175bhp std
They would basically have to do nothing and claim the figures they wished in that range.. :p
