Calling all knowledgeable personages

I'm a Leon Cupra owner and new to the wonders of Seat ownership, and one of the chaps at work has asked me my opinion of the Ibiza GTi ('98). I'm guessing it's the MKII, but correct me if I'm off the mark, so to speak.

Any general comments would be appreciated as to performance, costs, what he should be paying (let's go with average condition, mileage etc)

Many ta's for all your input.

I assume Brett was picking up on you suggesting 20l rather than 2.0l...

98 - should be talking about GTI Cupra Sport models by then, though there may have been some old stock GTi's registered late - as discussed many times before, there's a lot of it about...

Nice cars, and as Jase says, "cheap as chips" - Jase, have you turned orange?

I've had my 8V since July 2001, and I still enjoy driving it. On 65,000 miles now and the biggest bill I've had for servicing was just under £300 for a full service and cambelt change (including tensioner, which didn't have to be done but I did anyway). It regularly returns 35-40mpg on the motorway too.

As it gets older, it gets quicker, which is nice. :D

I'll second that. I've had mine 4 years and still love it. I drove to Reading yesterday and got around 45mpg which ain't bad.

Nothing has gone wrong with mine at all and I'd feel confident driving it to the moon if I could!
