View Full Version : Replacing Stereo
Well ordered my Leon the other day, and went to the showroom to just check out what i'd be getting, and wasnt too impressed by the standard stereo. No matter, i thought. i'll just put in my JVC Chameleon Cd player head unit in.
However i noticed that the System fitted in the leon is Wider than standard head units, and was wondering what i could do about it. any ideas??? http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif

This has been covered several times before in this forum but once more the Leon has a standard DIN fitting so will take any system you care to fit but has a wider aperture so you need a blanking kit for an Audi A3 which covers the gaps at each end if you fit another stereo.
Cant quite understand what you find wrong with the standard system as its one of the best manufacturer system I've heard on a car of that price. Only really lacks a bit of bass when you turn it up loud. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

I have just got a new facia kit for my Leon, from SQ Plus in Manchester along with my new Alpine Headunit. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif
I think the kit was an Autoleads Facia plate, its looks great really neat and was easy to fit, its a one piece unit that slots in, and then the headunit slides thru it.
The outcome, its very neat, and matches the cars dash look well.
I previously had an A3 kit in it, which though it did the job looked untidy cause it didnt fit quite as well.
Im sure its an autoleads facia, but i never saw the packaging, i've checked www.autoleads.co.uk (http://www.autoleads.co.uk)
But they dont list one, but maybe this site hasn't been updated maybe worth ringing them or a local stockists.
I do remember SQ saying though it was fairly new, and its actually listed as a Toledo facia, which we all know is identical anyway, so if they seem unsure if you say Leon, just ask for a Toledo one 99 onwards.
And yes the Leon/Toledo stereo is a single DIN slot, it just has an extended front panel to fill the gaps.
You'll need the removal keys though from your SEAT dealer to remove them, i bought some for about £3, unless you got some with your car.
Otherwise you will shag the stereo or dashboard trying to remove it. And even if you dont want the Stereo, you'll probably want to put it back if you sell the car, so it pays to get the right tools.
Most Diskchangers will fit in the glovebox too, there is plenty of room for different models.

Snoop, Zboyd is right, the new facia adaptor is from Autoleads for Toledo 99 onwards (part number FP-18-00).
I've just changed my Leon head unit and the adaptor matches the dash perfectly. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif .
My dealer didn't have any stereo removal pins so I tried the ones for my Kenwood. Guess what, it worked! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/cool.gif . After looking at the head unit, I think any head unit pins (that fit the slots) will work. This is because all you need to do is to push the pins onto the internal plates to release the head unit. But if in doubt, spend the £3 for the factory items.
Cheers,

Yeah thats the one Deano, i never saw the packaging hence i didnt know the actual make or part no, but all the other stuff SQ supply for dash kits is Autoleads so i presumed it was.
Im impressed with how neat it looks now http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif
Yup i think that these keys i have are very similar to Kenwood ones. so if you have that type they will do it.
I didnt so i got the keys from SEAT.

I have no option but to stick with the factory fit cd/radio as my smoke come with "gps" as standard.
Don't really have a prob with this set up as i find the 6 pack cd & massive headunit that comes as standard with the sat nav sounds pretty damn good & looks pretty much ok in the dash anyway!
Will trade up to a CUPRA R Leon only if options that i had on mine are availible
2200 miles in week's sortie to Cannes with sat nav help woz alot of fun : ) http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/cool.gif

I managed to fit an Alpine 12 disk cd changer in the glove box of my car!!, did a bit of cutting to make it fit but it looks ok in there and works perfectly, never jumped at all on me even when going over speed bumps its fine,
This is married up to one of Alpines nice head units with 40WPC output on the standard leon speakers, the BBE setting on the Alpines really increases the quality of the sound overall and allows higher bass levels with out distortion on most types of music
They are highly recommended !

The model number for the head unit is TDA-7567R, and the 12 disk changer that i managed to fit i the glove box is CHA-1204, They are a really good combination and with the 140watts the head unit kicks out really drives the speakers well, I would say the sound is at least twice as good as it used to be, and the bass is lots better too !

Ive just bought the Alpine CDA- 7876 RB CD Player its 60w per channel RMS. The sound quality is superb as someone else has said the BBE is just astounding, it really lift the sound.
And the Bass Engine and 4v Preouts have really got my Sub Box working now http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif
Just need to get the changer now, i skinted myself this week buying the headunit http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/tongue.gif
I'll probably go for the 6 Disc Unit, but i may measure up the 12 and see if it'll go in. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

i am interested in replacing the standard head unit in my leon (aura)with one that will fit the standard cd changer.
ive heard in other forums that this changer is a panasonic one, iv`e looked on there website and this this changer is apparantly a cx-dp9061 or a cx-dp610 unit is this true ?
can a head unit that is compatible with these changer`s be connected to the unit already in the leon i.e are the connections the same.. thinking of getting a panasonic cq-fx721 btw. will this fit http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif null

Mosser,
Thats the one I was looking at (good taste obviously runs in Leon owners!!) but have just noticed as ZBOYD says that they do a 60w per channel version now!!! Interesting to see how well the standard speakers stand up to that kind of hammering. BBE is superb, AIWA have been fitting it to their home hifi systems for years now.
Dont think I'm going to put a bass bin in mine though as I regularly lug stuff around in the boot and need all the space I can get. May just fit a couple of amped 6x9's or 7x10's if they'll fit in the parcel shelf without making a mess of it. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

The standard speakers are ok with it as long as i dont push it over 15, then i think they'll melt http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif
Im intending on getting them all upgraded soon, i fancy going for Focals to match my sub install or maybe Diamond Audio Components.
I dont bother with shelf speakers, nearly always get nicked, and they advertise the fact you've got something nice in it.
With the right component setup, it'll be stonking anyway, with SQ Plus advising me im in safe hands.
SQ have had a look and they reckon they can fit some 6" Woofers in the front doors without too much trouble. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif Sounds great to me.
Want to get my changer first though, i was looking at one of the new Alpine DVD/CD Changers the other day, they are so trick, but at £1000 bit more than i can afford at the moment.
They dont need to have an AI Net In Dash screen though, obviously you can if you want one, but they are also self running systems so you only need to add a screen, and link it to your headunit for in car movies. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

i would go for the uprated one too, but i have had my current head unit for 3 years now and it has server me very well!, and the 35Wrms per channel are only just about handled by my speakers, 15 being the loudest i can go before it starts to distort, but at that sort of volume, i loose focus in the rear view mirror (vibration) and the wing mirrors are moving and it is pounding away in the back of my seat!!
So i am happy with what i've got http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif , If you do go for the 12 disk changer, you will really have to hack away at the innards of your glove box to get it to fit, i even had to cut away the lining of the glove box door in places!! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif

Ouch. Think I'll give the 12 stack a miss. Dont want to start any major butchery on the interior. Rather stick with a 6er!!!
Thanks for the info anyway http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif
