Finally got round to fitting my engine last week but got a puzzling problem now!!
The car is a 1.4 abd code, ibiza 1994.
Bought an engine from a 1994 cls ibiza, spi but no tag as it were a breaker for the engine code. In apperance it is the same as my burnt engine but the new one has a steel rocker as apposed to my alloy one. Unfortunatly the engine numbers etc seem to have rusted away as chunks of rust came off when scrubbed up.

So fitted the engine, starts fine etc, but, it wont stay around 900 rmp on tickover, instead its lifting upto 1500 rpm spontaniously.
The throttle bit where the accelorator cable fits on is turning itself so i presume its choke interferance. now it does this all the time, cold or warm? With the lamba disconnected there is no difference.

So any ideas??

I am wondering if it is a 1.3 engine? and i have a 1.4 ecu!!!

Faulty carb??

HELP!!!!

So anyone know how to see the diference between a 1.3 an 1.4 engine?? Besides obviously the numbers?

not our old favourite temp sensor is it >?

sounds like the choke

look in the water housing @ the front for a 4 pin sensor try disconnecting that see if it alters the symptoms at all

other than that - just really need to know what spec it all is

1.4 ?? ish

carb? single point ? mutli point? injection

2nd guess - idle valve if injection - probably jammed or bunged up

Its a 1.4 spi, (unless it does turn out to be a 1.3). Ive disconnected the temp sensor, no difference! So if i pull the idle air valve from the carb leave it connected, what should i do/look for?

Thanks for the help!
