View Full Version : Re-Mapping/Chipping 1.6 Sport TDI
I have recently bought my Ibiza MK5 however its a 1.6 Sport TDI, i could do with having it chipped or remapped.
i have looked through various sites and talked to different people and got a variety of answers. has anyone got any ideas.....i don't want to do anything that could jeopardise my warranty.
cheers

ABT apparently have a map, but they're Swiss and i haven't been able to find a UK distributor.
Other places should be able to do a custom map for it on a one off basis.
But any remap will invalidate your warranty on at least the engine.

I've been looking into getting a tuning box which may be something you could do as this wouldn't invalidate your warranty?

I'm holding fire for now, someone will crack the RSA for the ECU in the 1.6tdi, with it being fitted across the VAG range the demand for it is there and I know it's being worked on.
Once it's done it'll hopefully open up a whole range of possibilities engine-wise

Apparently there's a company in Denmark who can do it
http://www.tchip.dk/index.html
I've emailed them asking how because as far as I can see the companies they list as using (Alientech /CMD Technology etc) all list the Simos PCR2.1 ECU which our car uses as currently read/write-able but no RSA [basically, they can read and write to the ECU but they can't as yet make the ECU believe that the remap is genuine so the ECU shut down]
Hopefully they'll get back to me,
best case scenario, the other websites just haven't been updated yet and it's now do-able, so it could be done in the UK,
maybe they've cracked the RSA themselves and just aren't letting on so that's an ECU out and post it to denmark for them to do it (no car for a week or so while the ECU flies around the world)
Maybe it's rubbish and they're getting ahead of themselves....
I'll keep ya'll posted...

Quick update
I have a Seat Ibiza 6J with the 1.6 CR TDI engine (with the Continental Simos PCR2.1 ECU)
I saw on your website that you are now bale to provide a remap for this engine?
Might I ask how you do this as my understanding is that no one has cracked the RSA for this ECU yet?
I enquire as I am very interested in rempaping my ECU but have been unable to find a tuner in the UK who is able to remap my car and Denmark is a long way to travel for a remap unfortunately so wondered if you might be so kind as to let on how you manage it so I could find out if someone in the UK is able to do so but hasn't updated their website to reflect this yet.
Kind Regards
Thanks for your mail...at this point we have remaps ready for the 1.6 TDI engine in allversion and we are waiting to have CMD official release the support of this ecu.
I have several dealers in UK...that can tune the car for you...when that time comes.
So at this point we can offer you a tuning box solution.
Regards
TChip Tuning
so like everyone else they're waiting for the RSA to be cracked.
:(
Maybe I was just impatient, but why are you waiting for the RSA to be 'cracked' just so the remap can be done via the OBDC? It's a simple job (4 bolts iirc) for mappers to remove the ECU flash it and put it back on. As long as they have the correct security bolts to put the ECU back, it will look like it always does.

No, the RSA is the check the ECU does to test that it's not been modified, it adds up parameters, multiplies and divides them etc, and they should come back with a set answer, if the anwers different it knows its been tampered with.
They can already read/write via obdc but as soon as they do the ecu knows it's been hacked.
Maybe mine has a different ECU, but I was told they need to come out to be flashed in boot mode to bypass this issue.
I was wrong
After a quick PM to Oscarli (http://www.oscarli.com/) (his map is on my car), it does seem to be non mappable................so far.

Do a google search for DTUK (diesel tuning UK) and also Tunit do good tuning boxes as well... can definitely recommend both of them from past experience!

Hi, did you go for the performance or fuel economy box from DTUK and what sort of changes did you experience?

I went to DTUK (actually took my car there) and no disrespect to the company (as they spent a lot of time with me and were very helpful) i didn't notice a significant difference. We tried different boxes, different settings on the boxes and even tried a pedal box....but i couldn't really notice an improvement so i have now left it :-(
Twisted performance have also aproached me saying that they have a chip but can't do a map but i was advised from DTUK that if their box wouldn't work, the chances are that the others wouldn't either.
I had a box on mine and I noticed an improvement. Energy tuning I got it from and it ran faultlessly. It defo picked its self up better on motorway for overtakes and it made 1st gear easier to use. I was more than happy with mine when I had the 1.6tdi

What was it like mid range? third gear?
i was also told that sometimes it depends on the model and car, he said some of the 1.6td's it was good on, some it had no effect....bit strange! i might have a look at this Energy Tuning see if they can help. cheers
I was very happy with it. Mid range was good. Just in general it picked up alot easier. would reccomend them
Pm sent
Hey, sorry for the late reply, i wasn't aware of the message! and i can't seem to write back...think its cause i'm still too new!! lol
what year and engine size was yours?
i still want to get it tuned in some way but since i've got a lot of negative comments about the chipping, i've sorta left the idea of it aside until there's definitely something out there!
cheers
2010 1.6tdi think if you get 15 posts you csn use the pm function

Been interested in this thread as I bought a Jan 2011 1.6 TDi Sport in Dec. Crap in traffic, too easy to stall and nothing below 1500rpm.
I'd have liked a remap but took the plunge and bought a Pro-Bitz box off E-bay, after much research.
So far no change in mpg and probably not much more in the midrange but it's far nicer in traffic and you can let the revs drop on a busy road without having to drop a gear to get going again. I'd have expected more of a remap but for under £100 I'm well chuffed.

Interesting, I actually hate my morning commute as it's a terrible car to drive in heavy traffic. My commute is only 15-20mins, but its complete traffic from door to door.
Thankfully I do a 200 mile round trip on the motorway at weekends which keeps the DPF happy.
Would still prefer a remap to a tuning box though, will wait and see...

As you say Markmeus traffic is a nightmare in this car, it was obviously made for the open road. I can say now I can trickle in traffic without 1500rpm on it !
I wasn't sure about getting a box but glad I did. I'm not saying go out and buy one the same just that it's made my car nicer to live with. I wasn't worried about more power and knew more mpg was probably unrealistic.
What I would say is go for a box with proper automotive connectors not computer spec ones and ask a few questions of the vendor to suss them out, ie are they ropoff merchants! Pro-bitz turn out to be the same company as chipmydiesel, both with good reviews.

yes i wish i would of had the bigger 2.0tdi FR now :/ but oh well ive got the 1.6tdi sportrider so got to live with the low power and no body kit, ive ordered a tuning box from ASA technik in germany (£100) ment to give 30% more power? and it supports the DPF and everything, ive read their reviews and they have got very good feedback from people with VAG tdi engines mainly the 2.0 but im hoping it will just give mine a little bit of a boost to help it move more lol cuz lets face it these 1.6tdi are slow! compared to if you got a 1.6 16v high revving petrol, my dad had the 1.6 v-tec honda civic and that car blows my 1.6tdi out of the water :/ i will post back in next few days when ive installed the box and let you know how it goes :)
