View Full Version : just about to import a Seat Leon
Hi i know this is a Cupra Site, but i couldn't find a good enuff site to post this on....
I'm importing a Seat Leon 1.6SE (not available in the uk http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif ) for just under £12g's. Its coming fully loaded (all the SE stuff, plus Leather interior and electric sunroof)
U lot are gonna laff, but i dunno which colour to get!!!! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif
either Black http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/cool.gif Anthracite blue or Indigo blue. any one have any suggestions.
i would have got a cupra, but i cant afford the insurance.
Also my brother had his Cupra badges stolen off his Ibiza, anyone know where to get another set from??!

Snoop,
Have you checked out insurance? http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif
It's relatively easy to get cover on a "parallel import", but this is effectively a "grey import" since (as you stated) this model is not sold in the UK ~ I'd be surprised if they charge you less than you'd pay for a UK Cupra!?!
Why not just pay the extra 900Euros (£560) for a 1.8 20V? Quicker, insurable, and you'll be able to sell it when you're finished.
[Whilst I'm rambling.....look at www.upsolute.com (http://www.upsolute.com) ~ approx £220 remap takes a 20V to 138bhp and 148lbs.ft torque.]
Colour ~ I went for black, but it is an entirely personal decision. I swithered between black and Anthracirte blue - each has it's appeal. Look at the gallery - ZBoyds pimpmobile http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif is Indigo blue.
(If you do go for black, be aware that the Leon black used to be "Black Magic Pearl Effect"....is currently "Ebony Black" (non-metallic), and will move to "Space Black Mettalic" for cars manufactured towards the end of 2001.)
There was a thread somewhere about Cupra badges.....anyone help???
PS - SEAT UK don't offer the sunroof as an option any longer 'cos it "compromises the effectiveness of the climate comtrol" (or something like that). I don't believe it myself, but I know the climate is effective.....unless you really love a bit more light in the car I'd save yer pennies.

cheers mate....i've done comparible insuance quotes, and on a 1.6 i'm being quoted round £650 and on a 1.8 around £1000!!! these are with tesco...i've looked at Elephant, bell, norwich uniion, and tesco is the cheapest. Any other companies let em know...(i'm 23, living in North London, with 4 yrs NCB)

Check out the 'Hints & Tips' section for the Cupra badges.
Flapper posted the part numbers and prices on 2nd August.
Any SEAT dealer can sort them out for you!
Hope that helps.

Why import a 1.6? Bells' Seat (http://www.bellsseat.co.ouk) in Manchester has new 51 reg 1.6 S's (they may be imports, but I think they're UK pre-regs) from £9795. I haven't checked out the deal, but £2200 is a lot of money and extra hassle for climate control, sports seats, and slightly different alloys. Admittedly you don't get quite the same spec, but you do get alloy wheels and all the essentials are there. Use the money you save against a Cupra in a couple of years' time...

your forgetting about TCS, EDS, Front Fogs, Leather steering wheel, leather gear knob, Bigger wheels, sports suspension, electric door mirrors etc etc
The only reason i'm not going for anything higher is cos of the stoopid Inurance premiums
